Guest account access needs removed

Post by Horus »

Has any of the forum admins look in the Map Making Support section recently?

There is a ton of Guest Bot spam in there, including apparent pron links...

I think it's time that Guest account access is removed.

Horus, click on "Memberlist" and look at the hundreds of spam-bot registered accounts; that's actually a far bigger problem than the fake guest-posts. Removing guest-posting won't help anymore and just discourages neophytes from asking questions. The account creation and guest-posting procedures need some minor catch to foil the spammerbots.

I would've thought guest spam posts could be mercilessly deleted. Any reason why this isn't happening?

Registering bots actually don't post... and on sites where they have to confirm registeration they don't do that either. All those ones have is a linked website in their profile.

Example = TFV forums gets hit by a couple of registering bots a day, none of which have ever activated their accounts or posted.

Accounts and questions single forum with guest access cleaned regularly, solves that issue.

I agree, its time guest posting was removed.

There could also be some form of automated account deletion after a time period has elapsed without the account registration being confirmed.

And a spam dumping area would be nice.
