I didn't like TSG. It reminded me of what EA sports do to sport, only for Myth :(

Now that is what you call an odd comparison...

"sometimes people rave about how new units _look_ without addressing the playability of them"

Not me! You've got the wrong man, you might want to go lambast Godzfire.

"I wasn't picking an example of something you were dismissing, I was merely listing some of the stuff _I_ found fun in the 7th god."

Well... you brought it up while addressing what I'd said about it. Forgive me.

"I never heard that, what novel did you hear it was based on?"

What novel *wasn't* it based on??? :D
Actually you know what, I do believe I may have erred here... though I'm pretty sure they farmed the story out to someone. Not a novel writer per se ; but frig, it was so long ago I really don't remember.
... or, or did the author later write a novel out of it? I strongly remember there being an author involved who wasn't on the usual Creation staff. Hmmph!

As for hype..... yeah. With the Mill, I didn't think hype was necessary, as any plugin that was above a certain size seemed to attract a healthy number of DLs. At least, thats how it went in the few short months that I was uploading there.

I feel sort of proud knowing that my plugin ate up 13 gig of their bandwidth.
(just jokes).

You are forgiven my son. Go and sin no more.

I am pretty sure it wasn't based on "Confederacy of Dunces" or "Bridges of Madison County" but I never read the latter so I could be wrong.

It's entirely possible, it's just I was a pretty active myth forum/site reader in those days when the 7th god was being developed and I didn't remember hearing anything about it so i was curious. Of course, given the units one might wonder whether the story was based on the idea of having Lord of the Rings style units instead of having units based on a story, but that would be conjecture. I for one find most attempts at story arcs in myth projects less than compelling, but that's mostly because I think story telling via the writing fiction, and fantasy fiction even more so, is a highly specialized skill that most fantasy story fans aren't necessarily very good at. That said there are some decent stories told as part of solo campaigns.

I am losing track of my point, but I think I was just saying that it's not really fair to judge something based on it's hype. Difficult not to of course, but not really fair unless of course the creator is the one doing the hype.

Creation had the novelist Chad Jones on their memberlist. He wrote at least two other full novels based on the TSG world (most of which I was lucky enough to read in PDF form) and helped create the storyline for the plugin.

One of his novels in particular was brilliant - very dark & quite engrossing. It was easily on a par with some of the best sci-fi/fantasy/horror authors, but to my knowledge hasn't been published or if it has been its under a pseudonym.

Not telling us where to get these is quite mean, if they're around at all.

How was Mort De La Luna's story connected to TSG? The two stories are in the same world and both have Gorlan the Blind but MDLL is much less developed.

I'm not sure what you mean by less developed. It doesn't have TSG units, but it's a fully polished level, and quite fun.

It would be nice to get links to those PDFs...

I didn't link them because the PDFs were lost to me in my great HD crash of Feb '05 :( I was given them long ago by GHOST...

MDL wasn't based on TSG or anything - it was just a fun level. When Creation started on TSG it was originally just a sequel to MDL, but then they got Chad involved & decided to make it Creation's magnum opus.

I meant the narrative clearly wasn't as intricate or deep. Though obviously that was part of it just being one level long.

Obviously, as you state, a narrative for a single level isn't going to be as intricate or deep as one for a 15+ level total conversion, but imo the solo narrative for MDL (and many other one level Creation maps) were plenty long/deep/intricate enough. Creation maps generally had decently written narratives, and MDL is one of my favorite single level solo maps of all time - but I've NEVER thought after playing a creation solo map "Gee... fun map, great looking, cool units, but I sure wish the pregame narrative were more intricate."

But then again, it could just be ADD rearing it's easily distracted little head.

Well... I never had any intention of patching Freedom 1, I didn't think it'd be worth fixing! :P And I've been told that later versions of Myth 2 don't crash on the final level like they used to (Where are you NOW Tornberry...)

But yes - a patch for Freedom 2 was made. It's just a matter of me getting off my butt and uploading it. Soon, soon, soon....
