Updating the Myth 2 interface: monitor resolutions, more

Post by GodzFire »

There had been some talk on updating the Myth 2 GUI since a large portion of it right now is just 640x480. I did some digging and found THESE.

Opening some of the interface collections in Amber, I'm curious, do we have access to higher resolution pieces?

EDIT: ARGH why is BBCode sucking with this link! And why can't I get HTML to turn on. :-/

The Main Menu is actually already available in 1024x768 and 800x600 formats in the foundation files that shipped with Myth II. There's several problems.

First, nothing else is available in that size, so if Myth were to use a 1024x768 screen, then Main Menu would use all the space, and everything else would be a small 640x480 rectangle with black border in that screen.

Second, the two other resolutions use a different shade of beige for the buttons, and it is visually annoying.

Third, no custom interfaces support these resolutions, so if you were using Chimera interface at 1024x768, your Main Menu would still be Myth II's original one.

The fourth problem is lots of monitors now ship w/ greater resolutions altogether, so even the 1024x768 is far from optimal for those computers, especially for widescreen displays.

However, if someone made versions of important dialogs (metaserver lobby, pregame and postgame, film management) for 1024x768, then I think it would be good to add it as an option to the game in a later patch.

If I knew what exactly was needed, and how to do it, I would. I'm assuming that there's no way T2 or anyone previously associated with Bungie would have them. Do you think the original stuff even still exists?

Photoshop + the stamp tool. All that you would need. Oh and amber...and probably a dialog editor (but those last two steps are just for after its been added into the code, etc. etc. etc.).
