Myth graphics improvements, etc.

Post by Frodo »

Someone (I think it was Melekor, not sure) had recently posted some pics with a new detail layer they had added onto m2 maps as in m3 maps. I haven't been able to find anything using the search. Anyone know anything about it and when it might be coming out?

I've also heard about a project by Renwood (and Ooga?) where they had managed to improve the graphics of the units in m2 to look better than in m3, while, I believe, still using sprites. I'm not sure what else they might have done. I heard they were planning on demoing it to take2. Someone brought this up on the playmyth forums but no one seemed to really know anything. Anybody have any screenshots, etc?

On a non-graphical improvement note, would it be possible to switch the camera angle to play like an rpg sort of like the pics show on http://www.idiotcollective.com? (I realize that Myth Realms is mostly a joke, but the lower screen is a real ingame shot). I guess this has to be done in the code - has anyone ever tried it with m2? So it would be sort of like this or something: http://staff-struck.freehostia.com/myth/

Sorry Zephy. Your post was not really about his question either tho :(

For Oog/Ren's stuff after a quick check into the accuracy of my statement no screenies have had much distribution if anyone's posted them. Never saw or heard of anything in my forum trolling. If they're still working on it, it must be at least a year maybe 2 since I first heard about it.

We have a working prototype. Melekor is sort of busy and we haven't figured out exactly what to do with this enhancement, because without tools the enhacenment isn't really usable. That and we froze off 1.6 a good while back before the work was done and it seems silly to do another Myth update with just a single feature added to it.

Perhaps CIK is talking about something else, but if we're talking about Melekor's new tool Oak that does the detail maps for m2 1.7, it's functional, and detail maps have already been created for every standard m2 multiplayer map, and many of the single player maps as well.

As for 1.7, it has much more than a single improvement, there are at least a handful of exciting new features, to say nothing of the bug fixes.

Anyway, be patient, the developers are pretty busy these days so progress is slow, but steady.

edit: i saw CIK's post said nov 27, which made me assume it was recent, but I neglected to note that that was nov. 27th of last year, no wonder it seems incongruous with the current state of affairs.

Hmmmm, maybe it would be nice then if it was released to the public instead of hoarding it to a select few........

You can't see your effects in-game until you have a beta of 1.7 to play it on.

And at the moment, we're not ready to release a beta of 1.7.
