OS X Macbook Problem

I've installed Myth 1.5.1 on my Macbook, but I can't get it to play. The splash screen comes up, and when I click "start new game" it never starts. The logs reads as follows:

Any suggestions on what to do? Will it not even play on a macbook? (1 gig memory)

Sounds like you have corrupt tag files. Can you post the exact sizes (in bytes) of the files located in the 'tags' folder inside the Myth II folder?

there are two files in the tags folder:

international large install (61,250,000 bytes) and international small install (68,275,062 bytes)

Maybe its due to the fact that you don't have the large installation of Myth 2. If you only have those two files in your tags folder then you did the small install. I would suggest reinstalling Myth 2 as a "large install". Then update it.

or just simply copy the files from the tags folder on the CD to the one on your hard drive. Much easier then trying to get some outdated installer to work.

I wasn't able to copy the other files over, as I encountered an error saying they could not be read or written. Maybe because the CD is so old?

Correct, it's because the CD is so old. Here's another method I've made work in the past when my CD gives me that problem (oddly enough it happens only about 85% of the time... other 15 and it installs np). Copy/Create a disc image on your desktop, and drag the files from there... Should work. If not, they can be allocated online if you contact the right people..... myself included.

If you have a previous Myth install on your old computer, you can also get the files from there. It's also a wise idea to back them up from there too, in case you need them in the future again.

Is it visibly scratched? Maybe try opening it on another computer, as individual CD Drives have different levels of fault tolerance.

No luck opening it on another computer. And I don't have an older one to get the original files from. Doh. Not sure what to do next.....

You can buy a copy of M2 on eBay or something.

Eddaweaver's correct on this. Try using a computer that has a tray drive (similar to the drive on G3 Powermacs, G4 eMacs etc) and try copying the files there. You didn't specify what kind of drive your other computer has. Is it similar or different to your MacBook's drive? Did you attempt Graydon's method? My iMac (G5) doesn't even accept my Myth CD because it is scratched; so I backed it up on my Mac Mini (G4). Try installing it on a different computer (preferably one with a tray cd crive, like the G3 PowerMac or eMac) and transfer the files via FireWire or a flash drive if it's big enough.

Edit: if either my method or Graydon's method doesn't work, it could mean that your CD has corrupt files (due the scratching, mb?) and it would have to be replaced. Like Myrd said, try eBay.
