Myth II on Windows Vista

Post by Raflegan »

It won't run. It starts to load for two seconds and then completely terminates with no error or warning. Is there any front-end or emulator that give an XP environment for Myth II to run?

I've heard there is a Windows XP mode you can set for apps (I don't have vista). Does that work?

Edit: After some searching i found this link. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Window ... 01033.mspx

Now that brings back memories...

If the Windows XP compatibility mode doesn't work, try using the Myth II Classic build and see if it goes.

I've tried every permutation of the compatibility modes offered. Even ones I knew wouldn't work like 'run in 256 colors'. It sporadically gives me an error message now though, which says "program not responding, windows is now shutting it down, and will let you know if there's a solution to the problem."

I'll try installing the classic build.

If that still doesn't work, please post the contents of your myth_log.txt, which may indicate where Myth is hanging.

Nevermind, I cleared my copy of myth and re-installed it, and it works now. I didn't even have to use the classic build. I was just jumping to conclusions since my Neverwinter Nights Diamond game also won't run; and I've installed it from scratch. I guess I'll just have to take that over to a NWN board.

At least I got myth to run though!

My suggestion: don't use WinDOZE

Hmmm. Seems I'm still having problems. I have three copies of Myth on three different computers. All with the same, proper, updated Playmyth plugins. All version 1.6.0 build 290. But my copy on Vista won't connect to any other game. All the games are red. Is there anything else that could do this? The error is "Game data does not match". TCP/IP connections between the three work fine with the three of them; all three can play with eachother at once, but my vista copy doesn't work on playmyth whatsoever; all games appear in red lettering with that error message. Any suggestions?

Wait, found out the problem myself again  It was those PMI_ plugins, I deleted all but one and it works now (even though the other copies of myth still have them. Strangely enough). It seems I have these problems every time I get around to reinstalling myth between several years of having it off my HD ;-P I forget the problems associated with it, then have to delve through forums, and have problems with getting it to work online; but the fix is usually the same and I remember what it was only after I fix it. hah.
