Myth 2 coming to Gametap!

This is very exciting. Finally a infusion of fresh players! But what does this mean for Magma?
I decided to look up in the sky, and lo and behold there was a BoB. I stared at him, and he stared back. There was silence for a great while until he said in a thunderous, booming voice..."Okay, Okay, DON'T Frogblast the ventcore."

So, if I'm understanding it right, they gonna sell Myth 2 online?

Ironically, they used a Myth TFL picture (which is indeed awesome).

That really sucks. GameTap is subscription-based, and since it's a new revenue stream, it increases the incentive for Take Two to mess with third-party development. Hopefully there's some sort of strong formal agreement in place…

Now, the question is if they're going to use our updates...

They must... else it will run like crap on modern systems...

But we weren't contacted about it... Weird.

EDIT: According to this thread: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/for ... 8002163831
They run the old games via emulators. So it seems like they're likely to use the old versions that are not compatible with new updates. :(

well by the 22nd hopefully the tain and get myth link will be active and game tap will simply be another avenue to advertise...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameTap

though its not clear if game tap games can even have add ons etc... doesnt the game application stay on their server? and you pay the monthly fee to access and play it ie... you have to be online to play it.

at least thats my understanding shouldn't need to run the emulators since its a pc ap already I thought the emulators were for games from old computers and console systems ...

I wonder how much take two gets paid on that and also whether they already included the updates... or more than likely don't even know magma exists.

will be interesting to see how this unfolds....
if one does not learn from the failings of the past they are likely to suffer its return.

Me thinks it might be a good idea to contact Gametap about all of this. Of course I'm not a member of Project Magma, but I'm just saying...

Muhammad is the most common given name in the world. Chang is the most common family name. There are, however, very few people named 'Muhammad Chang.'

Heh, someone Dugg down every reply with "projectmagma" in it. :)

I would be surprised if they used the Projectmagma updates or acknowledge their existance in any way.

Point: Their Myth II 1.3 will probably need to run in some kind of emulator as it cannot run when more than a certain quantity of RAM is installed in the system (1gb? I don't remember). They may have also set up their own multiplayer server.

There is a GameTap users' forum here:

for anyone interested, projectmagma's bandwidth usage has more than doubled since the announcement about gametap and the subsequent digging. Hopefully some of that traffic translates into new players :)

Think we should start a topic on it in their forums?

"So I heard that Myth 2 was heading to Gametap, which was really exciting. However I've found out that GameTap runs everything in emulation. Now, normally that's fine, however a bunch of nice guys at Project Magma have been Updating Myth for several years now, with Engine improvements, new net servers, and the ability to run modern Hardware and OS's. Many of the best plugins that have been released over the past few years only work off the new updates. So why is Gametap doing everything backwards?"

Thing is, we don't know for sure what they're doing yet...
