ey guys, ive been wanting to make a cutscene trailer for a project i really want to get done, and have been looking at some cartoon making programs, and this one might be the best there is. (much easier than scranning each frame and playing it through in imovie lol) but one problem... it costs a fortune. im just about to go to college and saving up, 300$ isnt an easy spend, so i was wondering if any of you knew of a free program that is similar, or better yet, a copy that i could maybe download from you.
im gonna start directing and cutting my trailer regardless, even if i have to do the long and painfull method, but looking at the demo mpegs for this program, just seems like itd be so much funner and better.

Actually if you wait until you are at college the academic pricing for the entire Toon Boom Studio package is $149.
For alternative free software, do you have a mac or a windows machine?

i tried out pencil, and i think its pretty good. it doesnt have all the cool features toon boom has, but it has enough, and for free its a good deal
in like a minute i made a 1 second clip of about 8 frames of a berserk reaching for a sword from his back, and exported to mpeg. adding colors is kinda annoying in it, so i dont think ill do colors in that program, and i did it with a mouse so the pictures werent amazing.
some stuff seems a bit buffy, and it doesnt run to smooth all the time even on my brand new imac, but ill live.
ill try to make something work watching and post it sometime soon

carl, it saids you can download for windows, but theres some common bugs if i recall. but i think ill be doing my drawings by hand, scan to picture to get the rough animation right, and then cleaning up alot of my drawings in photoshop/illustrator since it has much better tools and then transfer it back to 'Pencil' to export it as a movie format
so if u were to do it like that, you might not need to come across the bugs

they are both the same, but one clip comes before the other in each because you tube wont show the last bit in each one, maybe a bug or something.
it took me less than 10minutes to do drawings for the clip, then i just exported into imovie to add rain and letterbox as a sample/practice for myself
