Advertising Mariusnet

One way to make mariusnet's existence known to people who might only have old PlayMyth accounts would be to create a googlebomb for mariusnet.

e.g. If everyone who has a Myth related site/page put the following text somewhere (or lots of places) on their page(s) it would quickly start to appear near the top of the search results when anyone types in 'playmyth' or 'play myth' in most of the search engines.

proposed text to cut and paste into your Myth page:

Code: Select all

While PlayMyth.net is undergoing renovations, myth players can play myth online at MariusNet.
note: While the text above might be less than appealing for anyone wanting to shut down playmyth, it serves the purpose of letting people know in a fairly concise way, without injecting history or opinions about whether PlayMyth will ever be back, that there is a functioning game server to play Myth on.

SO if you want to let people looking for playmyth know about mariusnet, cut and paste the text above into your webpage/site.
Lots of Myth stuff at http://mythgraveyard.org.
Sometimes I put hard to find stuff in my my Udogs folder.

Hehe *looks at ceiling*

I feel like perhaps saying "is experiencing server trouble" is better than saying "undergoing renovations" as the renovations part (as far as we know) could be incorrect. But like ya said, this is for the less connected, and there is no reason to inject history into it unnecessarily. Good idea vinyl :)

That's a good idea, although I would feel a little bit uncomfortable doing it until we had some indication as to what Blades' plans are for pmnet..
Want to play Myth? New and old Myth players can playmyth online at Mariusnet.com.

my guess is that when he comes back from Vegas, he will have 200+ emails asking wth is happening with pmnet and then he will be pissed and turn it off.

That's why I worded it the way I did - I believe 'renovations' describes what Blades himself said he is doing to the site (one could argue semantics, but rebuilding the site is definitely renovating it), and since there are links to BOTH playmyth and mariusnet in the text, and since playmyth comes first, it isn't a slight to playmyth - it is merely making people who might not know it aware of the fact that there is an alternative/backup gameserver that people can use if they can't access playmyth.

If you are referring to the googlebomb bit, that was a bit of an exaggeration, I don't really think the few myth sites left would be enough mass to replace playmyth in the search rankings, but if enough people did post identical text we could probably get the mariusnet link to at least show up on the first page of 'play myth' or 'playmyth' search results.

if unique page views are what is needed, that's easy, hehe... I have a site that generates in the ballpark of 25-30,000 unique page views per day and is constantly crawled by more freaking search bots than I know what to do with.

As for the rest of it, it's a good idea.

As for comfortable, not comfortable.... I don't see why you would have any feelings one way or the other. It is (and I am not speaking as 'Mariusnet Boy' but as 'Myth Player') simply the Myth Community looking out for itself. I've been on record a few times saying that I couldn't care less where people play and I still hold firm to that.

If the majority of folks think that moving is the best course of action and it is felt that it is in the best interest of Myth in general to inform folks, then what possible reason could you have for any feelings of guilt or impropriety as a result of it?

It isn't about Playmyth or Mariusnet... it's about folks finding a place to play... the same damn reason you guys created Battlewatch so many years ago.
