Choppy Camera

Post by feyd »

Any XP users expreincing a choppy camera in-game? I am having the same issue with my Pentium system as well as my Athlon. I have replaced video cards, tried running the "windows media player" fix on another thread here, Tried OpenGL, software, and Direct3d, with sound without sound, 1.3 all the way to 1.6, windowed, classic, Safe mode, I am apparantly virus and spyware free, and I do not have this type of issue with any other game. Any ideas would be appreciated, other than "Get a Mac" :?

I have two computers that I've had Myth on, the main one (top one) originally was using the onboard default integrated 64MB video ram and then an ATI Radeon 9200 PCI card with 128 DDR ram before the current video card. No problems with any of those combinations.

Windows XP SP2
2.5 GHz Intel Pentium 4
1 GB DDR Ram
ATI Radeon X1650 Pro with 512MB DDR2 ram (AGP)

Windows XP SP2
1.5 GHz Intel Pentium 4
256 MB SD Ram
nVidia TNT2 M64 with 32MB SD ram

I am using the windowed/modern version of 1.6 with OpenGL rendering.

I'm running

Windows XP SP2
AMD 4200+ Dual Core
1GB DDR
ATI X1300 with 256DDR2 PCI-E

I also have a pentium system with similar config to your x1650 rig. Are you using Direct3d windowed? Have you done any "tweaks" to your vid card at all or your 3d/Open settings?

OpenGL windowed/modern version. No, I haven't messed with my video card's settings (for now at least).

Desktop settings as 1024x768 at 32 bit and my monitor has a 60 Hz refresh rate. My Myth prefs are set as 1024x768 OpenGL with High Resolution checked and 3D sound off.

I've got LCD widercreen so Im at 1680x1050. I've tried every resolution tho with the same result. I'll bet it has something to do with a widescreen monitor. That's pretty much the only thing I haven't taken out of the picture. Really appreciate your suggestions and time Pyro. Thanks!

Yes, I can run direct3d windowed. My desktop res is 1280x1024 at 32 bit and Myth is also 1280x1024 OpenGL with High Resolution if that's what you wanted to know.

Myth 1.6 of course.

i use a radeon 9800pro and can't run in opengl or it lags a lot.

Are you running direct 3d ? What about software mode, does it lag?

I've tried them all and I lag with every one. Since I have an ATI I figured Direct3d would be th eway to go but it lags. Yes, the strange thing is in software mode it lags the exact same way. I'm starting to wonder if it has something to do with my drive. It's a SATA-150 7200 tho, should be fine unless I'm having some sort of performace issue with it. My bencmarks dont show a prob tho.

Quick question - does it only lag when you move the camera? When you're watching units moving / projectiles flying with the camera still, do you get the frequent lags then or is it all smooth?

I've had numerous win2k and XP machines & haven't seen this problem running either Windowed or full screen. Atm my spec is...

Intel Core 2 (2ghz)
1gb DDR
NVidia GeForce Go 7400
XP SP2
...playing as long5hot on War Thunder

That's a great question. After testing that, I noticed that as long as the camera is not moving everything works perfectly. Even in the custscene videos when the camera is moving it is choppy but fine when not.
