Helping people make the link from play-myth to mariusnet.

Ok, so since there is not likely to be any helpful links on playmyth letting people know that the death of PlayMyth is NOT the death of the online myth gaming community, the responsibility for helping get the word out falls to us - the community.

As was mentioned over in the mariusnet forums, one way to help people looking for playmyth find mariusnet is to flood google with pages that connect both sites. That way when someone searches for 'playmyth' the page(s) at the top of the results will be pages that mention both.

Frumius came up with a sample of code you could use on your webpage(s), I modified it a bit and include a UBB (forum code) compatible one that everyone can use in their Myth forum .sigs.

I am not 100% sure of the logistics, but I think if a number of people used something with both 'mariusnet' and 'playmyth'/'play myth' in their sigs then forum pages would turn up high on the google search results screen because a single page would have multiple matches to 'playmyth'.

while I disagree with the tactic, I think it works better if you make the link name play�myth and have it lead to mariusnet

I had reservations about it while there was still hope that pmnet was coming back, even if it was faint.

Now that playmyth's closure is official, I'm all for it.

i think it only helps a certain number of times on each site, you should just go check the info on google, i remember them having a read me thing about it.

Sure is great to have a place for new people to PlayMyth now! Man, what a ball and chain that whole PlayMyth drama was. Tons of people are playing now, including new people who are now able to find the wonderful bliss that we have all known! It's great.

Bungie linking to Blades' blog is unreal.

myth.bungie.org should have a link to mariusnet.com on its front page as that site is highest in the search rankings for Myth-related results.

It isn't 'tricking' Google, it's just getting links to mariusnet higher in the search results page than they normally would be when someone searches for playmyth or 'play myth'.

From what little I know about the topic, even though Google announced they had anti-googlebomb algorithms in place (to stop people from being able to get a word or phrase associated with a specific site that wouldn't normally be very related) as of April 07 there have been reports of successful googlebombing campaigns leading to speculation that Google has to hand-tweak their anti-googlebombing software to disallow specific links.

People Googlebomb by putting up webpages, websites, spamming many forums etc. You can't manipulate Google very well by linking to the same URL over and over on two forums. One link on each of 100 forums weighs far more than 100 links on one forum.

The most important thing to be done is to have Bungie swap links from Playmyth to Mariusnet.

I understand the concept - that's why I suggested people put it on whatever sites they run - or put in their .sig files on any sites they frequent.

I am not under the illusion that everyone using it here will make much difference, I think what you are seeing here is a normal confluence of many mythers all posting with a bunch using the technique they are _hopefully_ using on other sites/forums as well.

Speaking of other sites, anyone know Rampancy is aware that playmyth is dead, and mariusnet.com is alive?
