Trouble connecting to Mariusnet

Post by Darin »

It keeps telling me that the server is not responding. I have turned off my firewall and it still does not connect. Any ideas? =)

Hmm, it might just be being silly try these steps:

1) Open myth, click on multiplayer

2) On the bottom is a button that says servers, click it

3) Select marius net, press ok

If something isn't set this might do the trick...If not, try deleting anything that says "PMI_blahlah" (where blahhblah is anything), "Playmyth1.2.1" or similar, and the marius net files from your plugins folder (DO NOT delete anything from the "Metaservers" folder. Then do steps 1-3 again and see if that works...if not...let us know.

Is this like a school network or something?

The first test is can you go to http://www.mariusnet.com/ in a web browser.

If that is so, then try typing "telnet myth.mariusnet.com 6321" (without the quotes) into a terminal.

If the first test works, but the second doesn't there are really only 2 options.

You didn't disable your firewall correctly or your ISP is blocking the ports myth uses.

in /Applications/Utilities is an application called Terminal
open it and type telnet myth.mariusnet.com 6321 then hit enter.
you should see something like this

$ telnet myth.mariusnet.com 6321
Trying 74.208.65.232...
Connected to myth.mariusnet.com.
Escape character is '^]'.

Are you using a router at home? Or connecting directly to your high speed modem?

It is a router. We have about 3 computers here and it's the only way we can all get online. Good ol Cable one. =) I am about to go to a school and observe for my student teaching requirements. Just assume that I'm a noob that doesn't know anything about routers and firewire and i will apply all of it when i get back =). thanks!

Ack! Don't take them out of the metaservers folder! Leave that folder alone, you just want to take those files out of the plugins folder IF they are there.

That seems to say that something is blocking that outgoing connection, and is not a problem of Myth. So it's most likely due to a networking setup.

Check any outgoing packet firewall that may be setup on any of the routers in your network (and on your computer, though those usually tell you when they block something).

K i unplugged my Network Hub and hooked directly to the router. Still nothing. SO either that means my ISP doesn't allow it or my computer is hiding a firewall access thing that i couldn't find and turn off right?
