Options of the community buying myth Franchise back?

Post by Renwood »

What are the options of the coumnity buying it back?

any lawyers out there be able to tell us some kind of senario?

Like there is a "Buy back Myth Franchise Fund"

and we'll all donate whatever we want to this fund..become share holders of nothing with 1 vote each, and the money sits there for a year at a time. The money only gets spent if the offer is accepted. at the end of each year the money in the fund could go back to those that gave whatever amount - like paypal transaction fees. or it could just sit in there.

we woudlnt have to worry too much about not being able to put it in boxes on store shelvs all over the world if we couldnt find a publisher, because people are very used to paying for a copy of something and downloading it from a website. mail order could be an option to, if people say bought 1 copy out of 100 that were for sale on ebay at all times at a fixed price.

even if this didnt work it would get world wide attention in game mags and on websites...and if it DID work We would all make History.

But silly me i allways think there is hope when im caught in the middle
of a hopeless battle...and lots of times this faith will see me through to victory. other times it will leave me broken and bleeeding on the ground, wondering what happened.

this story comes back every few months and same answers always come back. So unless you have between 50 000 and 100 000 dollars, forget it. And that would be a very bad investment because I doubt one could do profits from buying it off Take2

With the size of the community, we'd each have to deposit 500-1000$ in that account anyways, so it out of the question.

Somehow I do not see us buying rights to Myth ( at least yet ) - tho I can imagine Bungie doing this, releasing all 3 parts as freeware and eventualy making another game with help of Myth community...

If someone gets Take2 talking and naming figures, or ballpark figures, I'll pony up some cash if the range is reasonable. I'm afraid that I'm just not interested in contributing to a pool before we have some kind of number, though.

The numbers involved, and thus the level of trust required in whomever will be managing those funds, is astronomical.

Unless someone in Mythdom is Daddy Warbucks in disguise, I don't see it happening.

I'd pay $500 to have free use of the Myth source code and art.

put us down for $1,000.

Would be more but we spent a lot on development allready.

When you talk about "Myth", you should know the game artwork / Myth franchise and the game engine are two separable entities. Buying or licencing the game franchise and artwork would be very exensive. The game engine itself would be much cheaper. But if it's the game engine you're after, you may be better off modifying this into something Myth-like: http://www.glest.org/en/index.html

The franchise and the artwork/game files are themselves two very distinct entities—one is the specific work that exists, and the other is the right to make and sell new works.

As for Glest, I haven't looked at the source but the specs page says it ties itself to DirectX and thereby to Windows. As such, it would be a remarkably poor base for, well, anything, but especially something targeted at the Myth community.

What exactly are you spending all that money on, anyway? You paying salaries to your staff or something?

Well yes some of the people on the Myth 4 Dev team are paid (allmost half in fact) the others refused payment of any kind due to thier love of the myth franchise and faith in our project! There are some that i have offered over a $1,000 to implement things like all new engine features that could change the face of gameplay but STAY "MythY"...but they refused because they also had normal jobs that wouldnt give them the time to do what they had in store for the myth engine (they know who they are).

Ooga as well has helped with these financial development burdens.
Some all new features are in place now because money talks and bullshit walks. keep in mind for just 2 guys its a lot..but by industry standards its a just drop in the bucket (under 10K) and this was over 3 years.

The Best part is...the job that i had where i saved up this money for development was a network Admin job..and the guy who got me the job because he was 2nd in command at the company was one of my good buddies that lives near me in arizona! I met him 10 years ago on the net playing a little game called Myth TFL! He was the first person to join the clan i used to captain the 58th Wild Cards!

You will all be able to see where a lot of that went soon, when the website www.myth4thewindage.com goes live here before, or by end of the week.

ugh ugh need sleep but...NO REST FOR THE WICKED!
