Myth 1 & 2 for OSX

Post by FreakEden »

I've recently installed Myth 1 and 2 on my comp and used the updates found on this site so that I can play it native to OSX.

It "Appears" like everything has gone smoothly except neither game recognizes any keyboard commands.

I've searched these forums to see if anyone has had this problem in the past, but so far I've had no luck.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

What version of OSX are you on?

Oh, sorry.. forgot to post my specs.

Dual 1.4 GHz G4, running version 10.4.10 with 1 GB or ram.

Also using a wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse, although I doubt if that is the problem.. but then again, if I knew what the problem was I wouldn't be asking for help.

:D hehe..

If you have a regular wired keyboard, plug that in and try.... see if you can determine whether or not the keyboard itself is the issue.

Heh, actually trying to do that. I've got so many boxes of assorted computer crap that I'm actually having trouble finding my old keyboard. lol. As soon as I do though, I'll let you guys know if it works or not.

Well, strangely enough even my standard keyboard doesn't work. I mean, it works.. just not in the game.

I tried a few other games and it seems keyboard controls don't work for them either.

Very odd...

that's really odd.... if you were a Windows box I'd suggest reinstalling DirectX or something, but I haven't a clue about OSX ...though it sounds like some sort of driver that gets loaded for games, similar to a DirectX, is broken.

Are you using the Universal or non-Universal version of Myth II?

I do believe that I tried both and got the same results (a.k.a. no keyboard controls at all... hell, not even any keyboard recognition unless it involved base Apple commands like Quit, or Application switcher).

Still in the dark about how to fix this, and numerous internet searches have turned up nothing.

Try making a new temporary user account for you on OS X. Then try playing from that account. If it works, then there's something that you have installed (or some settings set) for your account that cause it.

Well, I made the secondary user account and the games work fine. :(

Granted, now I have no idea where to start to look for what is causing the conflict.

Bleh... computers need a big shiney red button that says "Fix" on em.

if you have DiskWarrior, I recommend giving that a run. Even then, grab a utility program like Cocktail or Onyx and run all the system maintenance stuff.

This is a strange issue indeed...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say, "Permissions issue?" though I HIGHLY doubt it.

I'd get an app like Cocktail or Tiger Cache Cleaner and wipe your system logs and what not. If you're a UNIX guy, just save yourself some time and do it from Terminal.
