You try telling my dad it's a good idea to switch mouse when there's no "need". He's not one for risk taking. He does know how to look after a Mac better than anyone I know and is pretty good on a PC but is too cautious at times too.

I am not talking brain transplant I am talking "unplug your PC mouse you like and see if it works on your mac".

Kensington optical scroll mice are < $15 USD in the local grocery store, I am sure they are cheaper online.

He's an "if it ain't broke don't even consider fixing it, EVER" type. Otherwise I'd have lots of gadgets running. He didn't even let me add a "Stop Hammertime" plugin to Firefox that gives you the option of clicking a hammer instead of a stop button. When it stops loading the page your PC shouts "Hammertime!". But he said it's bad to take risks for frivolous things.
