Project Magma and Myth III

Post by Tireces »

I remeber that there was huge annoucement bout magma M3 patch just before FF 1.3 patch showed up. Now when Pm.net, FF and MR. B are gone I ask - r there any chances for next M3 update in future, or M3 is dead and buried once and for all ?

Unless I'm forgetting something, Magma never touched Myth 3 update stuff. They post about it on the news to let Mythers know what is going on.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

Basically, Project Magma and MythDevelopers (which was run by Blades along with PlayMyth.net with some membership crossover - like one larger organisation) were working in "association" with each other prior to the closing of Myth Developers. Basically, Project Magma and MythDev helped promote each other. If Magma released something it was "Project Magma in association with Myth Developers" and so Project Magma had a Myth III Patch 1.2 section on the Project Magma site.

Patch 1.2 was never finished, but functioning public betas were made available. I believe they had a date when they stopped working, but such things can be got around [don't ask me how]. I asked Doobie how much they'd had to do with it, he said maybe a few individual Magma members might have done some small jobs or beta testing, but Magma had no official involvement in it.

Myth Developers closed their doors December 7th, 2003 and on July 4th, 2004 FlyingFlip appeared out of nowhere with Myth III Patch 1.3. With Clem and Blades in both groups, and a number of key others, it was effectively the same thing. I don't think Myth III development ever really stopped in that team. Thus far they had taken 1.0.2 and updated it to 1.1.2.

UPDATE: OK, so middle of typing this I went afk a while then did some research on the subject.

"Myth III Development Starts Anew! by Doobie Posted Sat May 22 04:04:16 2004
After putting many long hours and sweat into Myth II 1.5 we are proud to announce the slow beginning of Myth III development. There is a new build and other details posted over at the Myth III project page. In the beginning we are going to focus on getting Vengeance or a new map making tool working so map makers can start on new maps for Myth III. In the mean time post your wishes and bugs using the linking on the Myth III project page."

The old project page:
http://web.archive.org/web/200412090811 ... cts/5.html

Reading the project page, it sounds like there wasn't a lot being done though. It sounds like they just tightened up the beta so it worked as a 'final version'.

It was removed when FF appeared.

I might be wrong, it's ages since I did my myth research for Wikipedia. But it's how I remember it.
