guys please stop asking for permission on these forums!

either contact the person directly or if the person doesnt play myth, like renwood said, the way to go is to assume the person gives you the permission as long as you give credits.

If one doesn't have an author's contact info there's nothing wrong with posting on these forums to try to find a person or someone who might know the person.

As long as the topics are accurately titled so you can ignore them if you have no interest what's the problem?

Legally speaking, you don't need permission to use things that have been converted into monolithic tag format.
Just give full credit to whoever made the stuff you are using, and go crazy go nuts.
Okay I got the models but now I'm too dumb to do anything with 'em

I'd be curious to know what you base your claim on - particularly if someone has a "units designed by me, do not use these without my permission" clause in the readme.

But I don't think the question is one of the legality, it's just common courtesy to ask someone if you want to incorporate something they created into something you are making.

Of course if you can't contact an author, I don't think there's anything wrong with using content created by others AS LONG as (as you suggest) credit is included.

I wish I could give you a reliable source,
but it came about when I was reading into the reasons for having to include the same "Bungie" stuff in plugin documentation.

I couldn't show you where I read that, suffice to say it's purely in a legal sense. Obviously I'm a morally minded person and if there's so much as a single tag of someone elses work in a plug-in, it's only fair to say so in the read me.

Nevertheless, if someone were an asshole they could get away with not giving any credit... but I would sure feel less inclined to host/play their work!

I would also say that IF you use other authours work and you change them or edit them to also say that in the readme, something like "based on units created by _Blank_ with changes to them added by me."

I think whoever tried to take over the heros of COOP plugin with B8 i think it was....gave credit to Road like he should have BUT he DIDNT mention he had changed a bunch of stuff Road had allready created in it.

And thus many people thought the shitty changes made to the "bootleg" Heros of COOP B8 were made by Road, when they indeed were not.
