Myth II on XP.

Post by Chernobyl_Cow_Say_Moo »

Hello, never got around to Myth II after enjoying M:TFL years back. Trying to now but I'm encountering some problems.

I've installed a "full" "complete" version of Myth II.
I've installed the 1.6 "windowed" version for contemporary operating systems.

I'm running Windows XP and a swift current-ish gen system:
"CPU: Intel(R) Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40 GHz
Motherboard:nForce4 Intel Edition CPU to PCI Bridge
Graphics card:NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS at Stock Speed
Sound Card:Intel(R) High Definition Audio Controller
RAM:3.00 (4.00) GB of Ram
Hard Drive(s):
CD/DVD Drives(s):HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H31N
Power Supply:
Operating System: Win XP sp2"

When I launch the game my resolution changes to an appropriately smaller size "640x..?" and the color distorts on my desktop. I heard that Myth II might take some time to load so I waited and nothing occurred. There was no Myth II in my control panel either.

I have yet to experiment with the other installation style of 1.6. The only other thing is that I fiddled with right-clicking the desktop short cut and selecting the following options under "Compatability": "Checked-Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 98/ Windows Me", "Checked0 Run in 256 colors" "Checked- Run in 640x480 screen resolution" "Checked Turn off advanced text services for this program". I did this because it's a common fix for other games that has moderate success. (i.e. Sacrifice, Sanitarium, Bad Mojo...)

Anyways, unchecking it all yields less results. Nothing changes on desktop.

Myth log:
2008-10-11 08:31:47
Myth II Build 290 running under Win98 ----------------------------------------------

Found 0 to use
Scanning for Direct3D devices...

Scanning for 3Dfx devices...

Scanning for OpenGL devices...

Any help would be appreciated. No hurry, I've got other games to fiddle with.

Thank you!

I run Myth II under XP using 1.6 modern and I have never encountered the issue you have. Try running the 1.6 update again and install classic instead. See if that helps, the myth log might say something different too.

I assume your video card drivers are updated, maybe?

That did the trick, surprisingly. I didn't uninstall the game or anything. I just ran the patch and selected "classic" the game worked like a charm and loaded the first level. Why thank you sir.
