Demo does not run on Leopard

Post by solidsnack »

I downloaded the demo from Project Magma for my machine running Leopard 10.5.6 (a MacBook Air). The demo starts up, but when I click "tutorial" or "newgame" it finishes loading the level (Loading "Into the Breach") and then immediately quits. This happens whether I use the Software or OpenGL renderers.

I would really like to play this game; but I am hesitant to move forward if I can't make the demo run.

Graphic drivers updated or at least not very old? I know Myth is old but still. Maybe reinstall it, it is possible some tag wasn't installed right. What does you myth_log say? Should be located in the folder the demo is installed. It might shine some light into the issue.

Hmm, it seems that the resolution you're trying to use is not properly supported by the demo. Try using a different resolution.

When we release Myth II 1.7, we will make available a new demo that will be a Universal Binary and will support that resolution properly.

Myth II is trying to change the color mode to thousands, which is no longer supported under Leopard on newer Macs (or more accurately, the integrated chip on your MacBook Air doesn't support it).

A temporary (though annoying) solution is to run in windowed mode.

Hmmm mine doesn't seem to force thousands...

Much development is currently going on, and much development has already gone on since that demo was released publicly.

I'm currently running OS 10.5.6 on a Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro. It runs more than perfectly. I'd highly recommend searching out a copy of the game in full :)
