Extracting tags faster

Post by The Vile »

People from ProjectMagma, I'm now some busy at extracting tags from foundation/plugin files, for this I use both programs UnTag and/or Topaz, but... both programs only work by extracting tags one by one from each folder, what makes the process quite exhaustive - if I try the "Extract All" option from UnTag, it'll only create empty folders with no tags inside them. Is there another program or another way of solving this by turning the extracting process faster or less time-consuming?

Okay, I'm going for now...

The "Extract All" option works, you probably didn't give it enough time to extract all tags.

I've never had a single problem with UnTag. Most likely it's something with your plugin.

No! This option works but only partially: it extracts only the folders but WITH NO TAGS INSIDE THEM, so I'll have to extract tags one by one manually...

Wrong again! My plugins are working normally, I still think the problem is with UnTag (version 0.04)...

For now, I'll have to manually do it... anyway, thanks for your helps!

You said Untag doesn't work, but what about Topaz? Use "Disassemble" to get the entire local.

I use Untag on a nearly daily basis to extract entire local folders. Depending how large the plugin is, this can take some time, even on a very fast computer. The v0.4Beta by Killswitch right?

Another ability this program has is like in a finder window, it allows you to select groups of tags in a single go by using combinations of shift-clicking and command clicking (on the mac, not sure what the equivelant is on PC) tags within a plugin, then selecting "Extract...". You can specify exactly what tags you want in one swift command.

And it _does_ work. If it doesn't, something's wrong on your end. Perhaps with the plugin you're trying to extract from?

Yeah, it's labeled 'beta' for a reason.

Vile - are you using it on a Windows machine? Gray & Godz, what platform are you on? (Gray, I'm assuming you're on a Mac?)

Maybe someday I'll be able to update it. If you have a copy of RealBasic, the source code is in my uploads folder on uDogs HL.

I'm on Windows XP. UnTag has never given me issues, the only thing I can think of worth updating is that with 1.7 there are new tag types. They are "detail textures" and "detail maps". When a plugin with such tags are extracted they are placed in folders "dtex" and "dmap" instead of the previous names they should be in.

Then you must have the wrong version. I'm using 0.04b of UnTag for Windows. I'm sure you either have the wrong version or it is an issue on your end.

Aah, yes! Now I see the fault with my UnTag, and Eddaweaver's picture also have shown me how to do it! Again thanks you all for that!
