1.7 beta won't install

I download it, put it in my myth folder, and try to run it. I get this error message:

This application has failed to start because smackw32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

However, I see the smackw32.dll file in my folder right next to it.
So I re-installed myth, but with the same result.

I am on Windows XP, and am using the "modern" version.

Any help would be appreciated.

ok I got 1.7 to run, the only problem is it didn't install at all. I have to click the exe file in the myth folder for 1.7 everytime I want to start myth with 1.7

If I just start myth normally it reverts back to 1.6

Yeah, since it's not an installer, but just the .exe - it doesn't update your short-cuts in the Start menu. You can either change the short cuts manually, or rename it to Myth II.exe after backing up your old Myth II.exe.

Heheh, I've steered clear of alias shortcut files for that very reason.

What I'd suggest GKG, is to have a shortcut to your Myth 2 Directory... but just Always fire up myth launching its appropriate .exe file.
