200,000,000,000 Bytes and Counting...
200,000,000,000 Bytes and Counting...
For the statisticians out there (or trivia geeks such as myself), the OoH site surpassed 200,000,000,000 bytes of downloads last night (May 31) with a download of "Bushido - Way of the Warrior".
Heh.
Now back to our usual programming.

That was probably Legacy Thyphoon, I directed him to it.

I didn't take a really close look, but I believe it was the 3rd of three successive downloads of Bushido - Way of the Warrior that tipped it.

Not to be a pedant or anything... but it was actually 200,000,000,000 bytes right? Not 200 GB?

Not to be pedantic, but do you mean GB or GiB, DA?

I refuse to accept that (iB) silliness. GB has a clear meaning, and it isn't clean 10's!Myrd wrote:Not to be pedantic, but do you mean GB or GiB, DA?
Re: 200,000,000,000 Bytes and Counting...
Yeah, I intentionally avoided the GB/GiB thing by tracking straight bytes. But since by definition GB can mean either 1,000,000,000 or 1,073,741,824, you could say it hit 200 GB in one context.Myrd wrote:Not to be pedantic, but do you mean GB or GiB, DA?
To me it's much more fun to watch the byte counter and look for something human-interesting like 200,000,000,000. It's like watching a giant odometer - or the US Debt Clock (if you're into such beasts).
So now I'll be watching for 214,748,364,800 bytes -- the 200 GiB barrier! Heh.

The metric prefixes have a clear meaning. They go by powers of ten. I refuse to accept the 1024 silliness because someone back in the day used the metric prefixes incorrectly.Death's Avatar wrote:I refuse to accept that (iB) silliness. No debate about it! It's that one!Baak wrote:or 1,073,741,824
Though you do have a point myrd. But I must ask... what is this "metric" you speak of?
But I agree about the human readable thing. If I were at home, I'd post that pic where my odometer is all 1's.
Re: 200,000,000,000 Bytes and Counting...
Only if your display is base 10, supposing you like base 16, then 200 GiB would read as "3200000000 bytes".Baak wrote:To me it's much more fun to watch the byte counter and look for something human-interesting like 200,000,000,000. Not as cool as 200,000,000,000 bytes maybe, but I was still proud when i did it.

Ha DA! That's AWESOME!
Dang, the tripometer too! Wow!
Yeah, the GiB/MiB thing is utter nonsense...
