What's your Myth keyboard layout?
What's your Myth keyboard layout?
From talking with people on Hotline, apparently my keyboard layout for Myth is "weird", so I'd just like to see what other people have for theirs.
Here's mine:
Ironically, I had been using 8,2,4,6 as my FBLR, but it being an unnatural wrist position, I switched to what you see now, which was originally started when I played WoW.
Damnit, I hate it when those stupid arrows show up. Can we please increase the forum width? There's like 20% wasted space on either side.

I hate it when they add taxes to already taxed items. Can you do something about that?
No but seriously, there is no reason for your posts to break/change the layout. If people are interested in your oversized images they will scroll. Or they will right click / view image.
Solutions that YOU can implement instead of demanding:
PS: Visit this site and learn how to resize your bbcode embeded images.
PSS: that "wasted 20% space on either side" is an auto margin and changes based on the resolution at which it is being displayed. Persons who use lower resolution see less margin. Otherwise if you posted a huge pic, they would have to scroll their entire browser to view the forums as an oversized post which would stretch out ALL text that wasnt formatted with line breaks. So they get to enjoy your long winded posts in a mile long format because you think this is Burger King.

Solutions that YOU can implement instead of demanding:
- -Resize your image so that it doesnt go beyond the bounds of the layout.
-Post a direct link to the image instead of embedding it in your post.
-Post your list of key binds in text format.
-Quit being nosy about people's keybinds.
-Create your own phpbb3 theme with nonfixed widths.(or wait for the one we are working on)
-Never revisit your own posts(out of sight out of mind)
-Learn more about website design and how 640px is a standard serving width for content(your img was 638px wide)
-All of the above.

Wonderful, since people still living in 1990 have 640x480 monitors we have to suffer.

I know right? Could even be why some people still play Myth instead of newer more graphically intense gamesGodzFire wrote:Wonderful, since people still living in 1990 have 640x480 monitors we have to suffer.
Although I think some people use small devices like cell phones to visit websites, and they have to use a lower resolution as well. i browse with my BlackjackII sometimes.

Theres one thing I agree with godz about.GodzFire wrote:Wonderful, since people still living in 1990 have 640x480 monitors we have to suffer.
I have absolutely no sympathy or pity to people using ten year old computers. Even the marathon community realized how ridiculous catering to those kind of people is.
look at me - ive been broke forever and I still managed to cobble together a dual core pc with 9800 GT videocard (for cheap). you dont even have to spend half as much as I did (800 dollars) to get a computer that will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER slow down on myth no matter whats happening.
Carlinho needs someone to donate him a used PC - i'd do it but I only have this one computer. If I had a cheap PC lying around i'd buy a 30 dollar dual core 2.7 GHZ cpu (or maybe 40 dollars on craigslist) and just give it to him and send everything to him free of charge.
As much as I wouldnt want to lose carlinho if it ever came down to being able to make myth better or cater to people stuck a decade in the past, I wouldnt hesitate to choose the former. Besides, most people running older computers are on macs - because almost any joe schmoe with a horribly crappy PC can still upgrade it for 30 dollars at a time.
Pc parts are ridiculously cheap. Self-built PCs are retardedly cost efficient, especially when you do it piecemeal.
Oops, I went off on a rant.
Sorry guys!

Re: What's your Myth keyboard layout?
Sure you could argue that about myth Ooga, but not the internet (ie these forums).
Also: your personal ability to afford a PC is anecdotal at best. There are certainly people who ~can't~.

Re: What's your Myth keyboard layout?
I agree with DA. Nowadays people are using some sort of portable device to browse the internet. And it is always annoying to see the forum layout broken due to some large image. Imagine if someone took advantage of that and posted a much larger one.
As for keyboard layouts, I too think your layout is "weird". My layout is mostly default with a few alterations.
Right Click: Attack Ground
Mouse Wheel: Cycle Presets*
Enable Mouse Movement is checked
*If Mouse Wheel's Cycle Inventory had the inventory list appear while scrolling I'd switch to that for sure. And just stick to "F" for cycling presets like the default already does.
Sticking to default is useful for me at least since it is easier to use similar defaults in other games.

Ever heard of netbooks ? These have very low resolution and are everywhere!
The magma forums fit well on my ipod touch

Re: What's your Myth keyboard layout?
My monitor res is 1920 pix but I have a widescreen monitor so I can have multiple normal sized application windows open at a time, NOT so I can maximize a single browser window. Nothing stupider than seeing a co-worker with a 22" monitor surfing the web with the browser window maximized. Since the vast majority of sites aren't designed specifically for wide monitors, unless you are visually impaired and have the default font size bumped WAY up, it's just silly (and breaks several interface design rules) to stretch webpages out way past 'normal' and then complain because the text or images don't go from one side of the window to the other. Sure the current magma forum layout has more border space than I would ideally prefer, but it falls in the normal range for these kinds of things.
Btw? Most people who use 10 year old computers are on Macs? Maybe that's because unlike the boat anchors that 10 year old windows computers get 'repurposed' for, 10 year old Macs are still actually useful.
/rant off

Right on. Mine would be too if I had room for it on my desk.
Heck, my LC 630 still does what it's supposed to. That's lasted a lot longer than Cid's iMac, which is currently having a hard drive meltdown.

Okay I got the models but now I'm too dumb to do anything with 'em

Re: What's your Myth keyboard layout?
The typical PC from 15 years ago supported 1024x768 at above 256 colours. The real reason people use low resolutions like 800x600 is poor eyesight or lack of knowledge of how to set up their computer.

Re: What's your Myth keyboard layout?
Maybe supported it, but that doesn't mean it was the standard.Eddaweaver wrote:The typical PC from 15 years ago supported 1024x768 at above 256 colours.
It wasn't until around 2002 that 1024 x 768 became the most popular screen res (46%) for online internet activities. But "most popular" by only 12% - 34% used 800x600 - which is what the majority of all sites into the mid 2000's were still being designed around.
(above stats from survey data from 20,000 visitors from each of 100 countries)
As late as 2006, Jacob Nielson (the web/interface design guru) was recommending 1024x768, but noted that almost 20% of web users were still using 800x600 so urged that page designs should be FLUID (e.g. not static width), so they would display well on higher AND lower than 1024x768 resolution monitors.

Re: What's your Myth keyboard layout?
I didn't say the typical PC was set to 1024x768 back then. Ooga appeared to be saying that PCs from 10 years ago couldn't support high resolutions. It's not from a lack of support for high resolutions that people don't use them. Many LCDs are set up below their native resolution because people can't read the text otherwise. The reason I suggested resizable overhead maps was because I was having difficulty seeing them.
