Possible? Dedicated Linux Host?

Post by doughnet »

I was wondering if there was enough code to only run on Linux only a dedicated host for games. There would be no need for a gui interface, just running it as a daemon. This would work great for tournament games, everyone plays on the same host and having it be on a great line with get blends of networks it won't lag for anyone around the world. This has always been a real cool dream of mine to be able to do. Let me know what yall think and if there is enough code to do something like this.

Considering that, unless I missed something, you can't even change the map rotation on an Autohost server without local access I'd say it's a fair bet that the current code is pretty unfriendly to adaptation for headless use.

(Of course, it's a feature I'd be very interested in having, interested to the point of being willing to donate time as a programmer…)

I think there's someone working on a headless host. I think it'd be for normal M2 platforms first, but in theory could be ported to a Linux OS afterwards?

That would be awesome. I can't wait! I have 100mbit servers in West, Mid & East coast USA and Canada and Europe! Be fun!

Archer was going to work on this, but he's been busy with real life. So in short, no.
