myth 2 single player crash after every level
myth 2 single player crash after every level
I have myth 2 version 1.7 on windows xp. It works fine, but it crashes, or quits and goes back to the desktop after every level is done, whether or not you win or lose the level. This means that you cannot unlock any new levels. I realize that there is a cheat to unlock all of the levels, but this is still an annoying bug. and also when I hit the quit key, instead of going to the menu, it quits and goes back to the desktop. thanks,
Re: myth 2 single player crash after every level
What does your myth_log say? It is a TXT file located in your Myth II folder. It gets cleared out each time you open Myth, so make it crash and then see what the log says and copy/paste it here. Did earlier versions of Myth 2 crash for you? Or you just got back to Myth? Is your "local" folder empty? If not, what does it have? You can find it in your Myth II folder as well. Is this a new Myth II you recently installed or an old one you just updated? Were you using 1.7 modern or classic? When you load the game on the top left corner it will say the version. If it has "classic" then its classic if it doesn't then its modern.
Re: myth 2 single player crash after every level
I just got myth after not having it for a long while. I installed it from a cd, and then updated it with the 1.7, modern version, I believe.
here is the mythlogo.txt:

Re: myth 2 single player crash after every level
Make it crash and then copy/paste what the log says. It just seems like you opened myth and then closed it without starting a game. As for the local folder, having custom formations is fine. The text folder on the other hand, might be language related. Is your myth cd in english or another language?
Re: myth 2 single player crash after every level
ok, I made it crash, and here's the myth_log.txt:

Re: myth 2 single player crash after every level
That sounds useful, now once Myrd sees this thread he should have some ideas.tabernac wrote:ChangeDisplaySettings() failed! Result code = 1. Details = (mode=640x480, fullscreen=1)

Re: myth 2 single player crash after every level
That's an error message that Melekor put in because he believed the error should never happen (whereas I was not so confident - thus he labeled it as my hypothetical error). All complaints should go to Melekor.
Seriously though, you should try using the Classic build of 1.7. When using the installer for 1.7, it lets you select the Classic build to install. If that doesn't work, trying re-installing the Modern build but have your main menu windowed (while game full-screen).

forum search for hypothetical:

Myrd, recall that I put that in because you insisted that we absolutely must have *some* sort of handling for that case. I wanted to ignore it completely! :-)
I'm gonna change it for 1.7.1 so that it does just that, ignores the error. There's nothing we can do about it when it happens anyways (not easily at least), and there's a chance the game is still playable even if the resolution isn't set correctly. I suspect the behavior if we simply ignored the error might even be identical to classic mode.

Re: myth 2 single player crash after every level
well, I installed classic mode, and that fixed it. thanks guys,
Re: myth 2 single player crash after every level
Great! Can we contact you about pretesting the modern build again before 1.7.1 is released?
