Poor frame rates on The Baron (1.7 + detail textures)

Post by Tyrfing »

On The Baron I get terrible frame rates using the detail textures plugin. Normally I get upwards of 100fps (with vsync disabled), but on The Baron that plummets to as low as 19fps. Still playable, but quite degrading to the overall experience. So far I haven't experienced this on any other map. Removing the detail textures plugin restores the frame rate but I can't see why it would only affect this one single map? I tried increasing the texture cache and that seemed to make no difference.

Anybody else have this problem / know what's causing it?

You can disable/enable detail textures at any time by pressing F11

Or using the Page Up key. You can only toggle dtex on/off if it is enabled to begin with. If it is off, then it can't be toggled on.

As for why you lag on that map, I'm unsure. Some maps might lag if the textures used on them are bigger and therefore a bigger load for the computer. Maybe one or more of the textures on that map was scaled up or even down causing the extra lag. Maybe further testing is required before someone can answer this question better.

Not to mention if a detail map has to load more instances of texture materials it'll lag more. The Baron has some diverse texture going on, so likely more details are used on that mesh compared to others that have a smaller handful for the whole map.
