Myth II crashes after first cut scene

Post by quarashi »

My game keeps crashing after I start up the first mission, I listen to the guy talk about Willow Creek, watch the farmer cut scene and then the game crashes. I have no idea why, I uninstalled and reinstalled to the small install to see if that did anything but nope. I have the latest patch of the game. Here is my myth_log

Do you have the latest drivers for your video card?

Can you try going to preferences and switching to Software Rendering and check if it still crashes?

Make sure to use "large install" so when you update to the latest version you will not need the CD in your drive to play the game.

I switched it to Software rendering it and it doesn't crash anymore. I downloaded a new driver back in July so I didn't think I would new one. But thanks for your help I would have never have guessed to do that.

Pyro: I originally had it large install the first time but I was reading through some old threads and someone mentioned uninstalling and doing the small install to fix something. So I took a guess that could be one of my problems but it's apparently not.

There are three rendering options: Software, Direct3D, and OpenGL. Make sure you try all three since Direct3D and OpenGL are better than Software. But if Direct3D or OpenGL don't work, you can always use Software.

You do realize that's entirely dependant on your graphics card right? I only have the choice of OpenGL. I can't even run Software anymore.

For the Windows version of Myth, there are all 3 choices. Some video cards work better with OpenGL, others better on Direct3D, and some might only be able to run on Software.

Pyro is talking about the Windows version, which does include all three choices. The Mac Universal Binary version only has the OpenGL option since that's guaranteed to be available and work properly on Mac OS X (so Software mode is not required, and other rendering options are not available on OS X).

it still is kind of a bummer to take away a rendering option like software.
why was it removed?

Mac UB version uses 32-bit pixel colors. The software renderer only supports 16-bit rendering.
