Running multiple copies of myth.
Running multiple copies of myth.
I am on windows vista, I run 1.7 modern build. Now, when I used a mac I could run as many copies of myth as I wanted, but on windows it says error, only one copy of myth can be running at a time. Do any of you know how I can get arround that?
Now I don't want to do this so I could, say, use dummies and ruin games. I want to be able to see the lobby when in game.

Re: Running multiple copies of myth.
Duplicate your myth folder
Re: Running multiple copies of myth.
Duplicating your folder doesn't work on Windows like it does on Mac. Myth is specifically programmed to only run one copy on Windows.
If you want to be able to see the lobby while in game, perhaps MythChat would do the trick?

If that is the case, then perhaps The Devs can rework that?

Why? There is already a solution.Omicron wrote:Melekor wrote:Duplicating your folder doesn't work on Windows like it does on Mac. Myth is specifically programmed to only run one copy on Windows.

As Melekor realizes, myth chat might NOT do the trick. So if it is acceptable for Mac users to run multiple copies, and that has not been fixed so they can't, and if The Devs are willing and able, maybe they could for windows.

I would say the *only* uses are likely nefarious, and would instead recommend we consider doing the opposite: preventing the mac version from running multiple copies...
But that's at least me...
EDIT: For accuracy...

Re: Running multiple copies of myth.
Myth Chat is indeed enough. No real need to allow multiple copies of Myth running. It is bad enough that people still have ways of dummying, no need to give another.
Re: Running multiple copies of myth.
Don't take away the ability to run 2 copies on mac, it makes for much easier testing. I've done weeks worth of testing in a much shorting time by running 2 copies on the same computer.

Agreed. The ability to have loathing open on a mesh, and have the mesh open in myth with proper OGL rendering and all that, is a godsend.
Re: Running multiple copies of myth.
I run 2 copies of myth all the time to test scriipts! dont take it away
Re: Running multiple copies of myth.
i do a lot of testing and now im starting to get into scripting, and i am not on mac and it would help if i could run 2 copies of myth at the same time. i think that if you were to change it, dont make it easy, but have a certain thing you have to do to be able to run 2 myth copies. so only 'trusted' people know how. something like that.
HAPPY MYTHING!

call me a cynic, but 'secrets' only stay secret when everyone who knows the secret is dead. and who gets to decide who is 'trusted' anyways?steelaxe wrote:so only 'trusted' people know how. something like that.
