Myth will never be on iPad.

Good. Fucking. Game.

Nobody will ever take the time or effort to collaborate with the biggest dick of a game company there is to make it happen.

Nuff said. Let this thread die. Lol.

I agree.

But there's some awfully clever buggers here who could create a new Legacy.

Basically we need to make a game engine thats exactly like myth in every way except created entirely from scratch.

GL on that!

A few interesting Tweets sent yesterday between John Siracusa (Ars Technica) and Wil Shipley (Delicious Monster)

http://twitter.com/siracusa/status/11480787029
Things to recommend an iPad Myth port: older game so GPU is not an issue; a natural for multi-touch and gestures; low bandwidth, 3G friendly

http://twitter.com/siracusa/status/11481547315
Anyone know who to talk to about a Myth port? Does Take-Two http://bit.ly/9JUjtp still own the rights? If so, who should fans contact?

http://twitter.com/wilshipley/status/11502874684
@siracusa You’re talking about the old Bungi game, right? Kind of awesome, kind of impossible to play?

@wilshipley Yes, the old Bungie game: totally awesome and pretty easy to play, compared to other RTS games. http://bit.ly/9cWfH5

@siracusa I agree Myth was one of the best games ever — if we could get the rights maybe I could port it to iPad...

@siracusa Interestingly, there’s an independent group that’s ported the base engine very widely. Would make an iPad port trivial.

I think he means you guys.

You're maintaining Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.

I don't think John or Wil would be interested in doing it the "wrong" way.

I wasn't aware that Magma was supporting Linux.

ps. Zeph, I know you know, but for anyone who doesn't, the only people who could give the code to anyone for a product would be TakeTwo.

We're exploring Linux support for 1.8 - we have several components already rewritten to use portable APIs - which would just work on Linux - but not everything yet. As always, its a question of what we want to spend our time on - and there are a lot of things that can be done for 1.8.

It would definitely be possible to support iPad - with some work on the UI/input front. But the main problem is the rights. We can't sell Myth and any attempt on our part to talk to Take2 has not been successful (i.e. Take2 not returning phone calls and such).

no prob. there was a unix version of M2 licensed/released by Loki (Loki Games?), i had just thought the linux source code had dissapeared but there was always the possibility it had been undissapeared.

Yep, I have a CD for the Loki port. The crazy thing is they ported (read: re-implemented) Fear and Loathing too!

But the code for that is forever lost in time and likely uses old Linux APIs that are no good to use nowadays for modern Linux code.

Hi Myrd,

Thanks for the reply. My son (9) loves playing Myth II. I really appreciate the work you're doing.

My interest is seeing it on the iPad platform. I've got some friends in the games industry (just not Take2) so I'm going to tap them to see if they can get us a human. My intent was that if it cannot be produced then something else can be clean-roomed instead. I don't know how much of this interests you but I'll pursue it nonetheless.

Frank "Svartalf" Earl porting Myth?

Did you all see this, posted in January of this year? http://www.soldak.com/forums/showpost.p ... stcount=26

"Some of these will actually start later in the year or are as I find time doing them (i.e. the Myth Franchise stuff. This is a fan of the franchise pitching his hat in with the bunch doing the Windows/MacOS versions of Classic Myth I&II and Myth III with permission from TakeTwo...)"
