Troubles with running the OSX Universal 1.7.1 update

Post by Harvestman »

I can only run Myth II with the PowerPC version of the game, using the 1.7.1 update. When I try to open the game with the Universal version I get this message:
"Could not find all the required patch files. Please re-install the 1.7.1 update."

Please tell me what I need to do to make the Universal version run.

Thanks

Inside your Myth II folder you will find a "myth_log" text file. Copy and paste its contents here. Keep in mind, it gets overwritten each time you try to open Myth2.

But my guess is that you are missing some file. Are you on a PowerPC Mac or an Intel Mac?

Loading poweruser.txt... not found.
Could not find all the required patch files. Please re-install the 1.7.1 update.

I have a Mac Pro with an Intel Quad, and I'm running OS 10.6.3

Pop in your Myth CD. Drag the entire 'Myth II Æ’' folder to your desktop. Take the Tags and Plugins folder from the CD and then overwrite the ones in your M2 folder on the desktop (they are empty). In your M2 folder on the desktop, remove the 'network only' from inside it. That will give you all the files you need. Now download and run the 1.7.1 Installer (http://tain.totalcodex.net/items/show/m ... 1-mac-os-x). Finally, when you are ready to sign online, make sure to change the server to "MariusNet" by clicking the 'Server' button and selecting it.

The 1.7.1 Installer has an option to do a full install directly from the CD. Did you try this?

GodzFire,

I tried following your instructions to the letter, but I had no success. Sounded like a thorough set of instructions. It just didn't give the expected result. I certainly appreciate you intention to help, though. Thanks.

Try just the 1.7.1 installer like Myrd said. It will pull everything you need for you.

I tried these ways of getting Myth II to run: I have installed it as an upgrade, I've installed it from scratch from the CD (after deleting the old application), I"ve installed 1.5.1 first before upgrading to Myth II 1.7.1. I've also tried doing the complicated folder swap, as suggested by GodzFire. I've done the installation under 32-bit mode and 64-bit mode. No luck at all. Is it possible that, since I bought the disk in '98, that my original disk doesn't have the necessary files or folders for conversion?

Getting 1.5.1 to run has been no problem. But no way has worked for getting 1.7.1 to run.

Is this the original M2 CD or the Total Codex version? Does your disc have any visible scratches that might be preventing a certain file from copying over properly?

When you tried to install with 1.7.1 and update with it, what plugins did it add to your plugins folder?

I wonder if it may have something to do with the location to which you're installing it to. Is the location deeply nested in folders? Do some of the folders have special characters in the name?

I ask this because there's only a few differences in the code between the Universal and PowerPC versions (note: 1.5.1 is similar to the 1.7.1 PowerPC version, and thus is able to run for the same reason as the other one).

Do this:

Open a new TextEdit document and drag the Myth II 1.7.1 Universal icon to the TextEdit window. This will copy the full path of the application. Please paste this path here. This will help me debug what may be causing your issue.

Myrd I sent him a test copy of 1.7.1 that I KNOW works, contains all the tags and crap inside; all you needed to do is double click the application in order to run it. Here's what the results were from that:
This is really weird. I did a copy of the folder and moved it to a different start-up drive. I started up that drive, and then I launched Myth II 1.71. It ran beautifully. I can't figure out the reason why it refuses to launch on my main drive. I erased my old version of Myth II 1.7.1, and then I re-installed your folder. Then the message came up: "Could not find all the foundation files. Insert your CD or do a full install."
Let me take you back to the beginning, when I received from you your M2171 folder as a compressed folder. Following its expansion, I first dragged it to my Applications folder. Then I opened the folder and double-clicked on the app itself. Then I got the first message: "Could not find all the foundation files. Insert your CD or do a full install." Then the second time I tried to launch the app, it said, "Could not find all the required patch files. Please re-install the 1.7.1 update." Then I decided to throw away the folder with the version of Myth II 1.7.1 that I had originally gotten from the web site before you sent me your folder with the app. I thought this might stop a "conflict" that may have been occurring. I tried launching your version again, but I only got the second message, ". . . patch files," again.

Then I dragged the folder you had sent to me to my other start-up drive. I restarted my computer, having selected my other drive as the start-up volume. After start-up, I dragged your folder to the Applications folder. Then I opened the folder, I double-clicked on the app, and the game ran with no problem at all.
