I'm trying to sum up the various 'reasons' people have for not updating their version to the most current one. This is what I have so far:
- Don't care about compatibility (and the other users they effect)
- Doesn't 'feel' like it (general laziness)
- A friend had problems with it, so they assume it sucks and don't try it
- Has something against PM for 'ruining' the game
- Tried it once and didn't work, or, doesn't work on their system (this is the most frustrating one, because almost NEVER do these people ever actually EXPLAIN what their problem is so PM could tell them how to fix it or correct it in a future version, just that it doesn't work. I'd say 95% of the issues people actually DO post are taken care of)
Can anyone else think others I haven't covered?
Reasons why people don't update
Re: Reasons why people don't update
While I can see the merit of understanding why a few people don't update, I don't see much gain from this thread. If people don't update, that is fine. There are always ignorance out there, you can't fix that. Just let them figure it out on their own as long as most people know how and why to update there is no issue.
Re: Reasons why people don't update
Well, I still feel like this thread has it's purpose, so let's just continue on please.
Re: Reasons why people don't update
biggest reason for not updating?
"Why bother? I've been playing the game for 10 years, it was a best selling game with thousands and thousands of people playing the original, and i update when I am forced to every few years to keep the game running on my latest computer/OS, but other than that it works fine so why should I bother updating?"
seriously, i DO update, and i think it's great that magma is keeping Myth going on the latest hardware and OS and is stamping out bugs, but objectively, for the majority of people who aren't 'early adopters', or who aren't experiencing any glitches, and who don't play coop so could give a rat's ass about upping projectile limits or a feature to turn projectiles into artifacts at rest or other mapmaking features, why should they bother to update?

Re: Reasons why people don't update
if you ever played wow, when you logged on it would automatically update if there was a later version.
unless something like that is implemented, some people will do as vinyl says... "if it works dont fix it"
