Late comer to the party with a few questions

Post by rhuan »

Background(actual questions aren't in this paragraph, only read this if you want to know a little about me): I'm somebody who played the demos of myth 1 and 2 many years ago but by the time I decided I wanted the full games I couldn't find mac versions for sale anywhere, I could however find myth 3, which I enjoyed for a while, (all some years ago as you can imagine), anyway, I stumbled uupon something about myth the other day and it brought back memories, a bit of googling brought me here and I'm wandering if I can finally play those games I enjoyed the demos of many years ago. I can find mac versions available but for more than I'd really like to spend on games, however from clicking around here I have a few questions:

-Someone said that the updater that can be downloaded from this site can install a mac version of myth 2 from a PC game disc, is this correct? (sorry if I'm being rude by asking but want to be sure before spending even £5 on something that could otherwise be useless to me)

- I've seen mention of Myth 2 mods that make it into Myth 1, could I play the entirety of the orriginal Myth 1 campaign with myth 1 units and cutscenes etc having only purchased Myth 2, or do I need to buy both game discs if I wish to play both campaigns?

-If the answer to the last question is yes I do need to buy both game discs, is there an installer that can be used to install myth 1 for mac from a myth 1 PC disc? (Mac copies of both games are rarer and tend to be in the £30-40 range rather than the £5-10 range, and as a someone who has other things to do with his moeny I'm not really willing to spend the £30-40 sort of amount on games these days)

Those are all my questions for now, I hope I haven't said anything inaapropriate. Thanks in advance for any help.

*Goes to play the myth 2 demo that he's just downloaded*

Nothing inappropriate said at all mate. Glad to see someone else returning to a fantastic game after years of absence. To answer your questions:

- The someone who told you this is absolutely correct. Every copy of Myth 2, including versions from The Total Codex and Myth Worlds additions is a 'universal' or 'hybrid' install disc. Depending on the operating system the disc is popped into, a different window will pop up with the relevant original installer options for that operating system.

- Magma's port of TFL called "The Fallen Levels' along with a physics preference toggle called 'vTFL' (virtual TFL), one can mimic the experience of playing Myth TFL _almost_ exactly. There's a few very minor inconsistencies, but only someone who played TFL habitually for years on end would notice these things. Someone coming in after only ever playing the Demo, wouldn't know what's missing, and wouldn't feel anything was missing.

- Due to the answers of question one and two, question three is moot! :)

Any other questions feel free!

To add to what Graydon said. You can find cheap copies on eBay and Amazon. The original Mac installers in the CDs work only for classic Mac OS. The latest Myth 2 update has an installer you can use with the CD to install on a computer using Mac OSX.

If you are going to play the TFL plugin for M2, you might want to download the TFL cutscenes found at the Tain. Just place them in a "cutscenes" folder inside your Myth II folder.

For additional info, you might find it in the Myth Starter Guide.
