Also, I wasn't meaning my comment as discouragement, a lot of people aren't aware that Bungie doesn't own the rights, and I didn't know if you were aware or not, so my comment was just to let you know why Bungie might not respond.
Oh no hard feelings. :) I might have come across as a bit snappy there, and I it wasn't my intention. I appreciate the help. :)
I am friends with a number of Bungie employees who are still around from the Myth days. I know for a fact that Bungie approached Take2 when they spun out from MS back in '07, and Take2 whipped out an absurd figure and put it on the table, which shows you how out of touch Take2 is. If they made a deal with Bungie they could distribute new copies and updates for some revenue, but instead Take2 has just thrown the Myth series in the corner where it's sat the last 10 years.

As far as another company goes, the problem isn't finding someone who wants to, it's always been getting Take2 to actually communicate. There have been several attempts, but it always dies since no one can seem to get in touch with anyone at Take2 who knows what the hell they are doing.

It's both sad and upsetting.
This information was very valuable to me, and I thank you a lot for it. Miscommunication is a real plague in the gaming business and to think that Take2 can't handle things better is sad (but not that much of a shock).

Still it is obvious that Bungie cares a lot for Myth. In every Halo game I can think of there is some nod or reference to the series.

It will be interesting to see if there will be some kind of response from my project, though. Maybe most fans prefer to see Myth remain a RTS and I would love to see more of them, but I think that my idea has some potential.

Would anyone here be interested in testing the game when I've had a chance to work on it?

Cheers!
I would but, I'd need a new computer. However I will be cheering you on. :D

a RTS into a full fledged classbased FPS (First-Person-Slasher). I have been petitioning Bungie to make this themselves, but since I've gotten no answer I decided to have a go at it myself.

Design wise it's a breeze as Bungie has been kind enough to give us each unit's statistics in the Fear & Loathing kit.

Program wise is a bit of a problem though, but I don't think it will be impossible. :P

I could tell you more about it if you guys are interested.
I am all eyes ears and ready to see hear more about this new game you are developing. Perhaps wet everyone's eyes and ears with some screen shots or video of it in action.

Make it for iOS and make it able to read standard myth plugin files. Thanks.

Bye.

It's all in a mudcrab state at the moment, as I don't have any graphical assets or stuff to show you, just design decisions and flowcharts. But I have received so much positive feedback from people that I'm thinking of making this into my examination project for my final year at the university. I shall begin gathering my team during the summer and start to put things up soon. I'll try and see if I can't start producing something to whet your appetites soon, though. ;)

Myth could easily be ported to IOS if someone over at Take2 would actually do something with their licence. It would probably run very smooth on a Ipad too, provided that they include a pause function.

But my game won't be able to run on those devices, although I'm thinking of making it possible to import the old myth plugins for my game. It is the Myth community that is the heart and soul of the series and I would love to make it possible for everyone to use their old stuff yet again. :)

I'm always surprised how many people have dinosaur or otherwise outdated computers here. You'd be hard pressed to find someone with a smaller budget than me but even I was able to build a pc that runs crisis on medium-high At 60 fps. What's the deal? I used to be a Mac Boy and I have a love for macs but it would be patently absurd if brand fanaticism and macs being expensive was the reason nobody has sprung for building a powerful and cheap desktop.

why are you suprised that people have dinosaur computers? the game is a dinosaur, 13 years old - why would you expect people playing an ancient game to have a recent fast computer to play a game that played fine on a 200Mhz PPC Mac with 4MB of RAM?

I think the assumption is that most people aren't still using 13 year old computers whether they play games or not :) Technology has come quite a long way since then.

Hmm, I don't think any puter w. 4 MB of RAM could play myth 2, even TFL needed at least 16. I personally played TFL and Soulblighter on a Pentium 200 Mhz. Myth TFL ran like a champ, though Soulblighter always sucked big time in the Frame rate dept. getting around 5-20 FPS most of time. Fast forward to today, Myth 2 ain't going to be played with all these improvements on the Pentium 200 Mhz variety, a Pentium 3 class with 1 Gig of RAM for Windows XP machine is the bare minimum w.o. massive page file usage, even more so with service pack 3.

sorry about that mangled spec, the used mac i upgraded to so I could play myth 2 had 4MB of ROM, but the significantly larger amount of 32MB of RAM.

but for TFL, i have you beat in the low-end department. the comp i played all the way through the solo campaign on was a 75 MHz PPC with only 8 MB of RAM, and it could display thousands of colors at 640 x 480, or 256 at 832 x 624.

With Virtual Memory enabled, I assume?
