I have tried that and im pretty sure it still happens. However i shall try it again to make sure it did not work.
The software renderer only uses basic windows graphics functions. If it can happen with the software renderer, it can probably happen with any other program as well, like your internet browser or even windows itself.
Seems like the newest drivers for your machine are indeed from 2009... so I'm not entirely sure what can be done. Reformatting the machine might help (since pyro says there are other issues as well) but otherwise I'm not sure.
Still surprised that even software mode + windowed has any issues... that would sort of imply that any windows application could have issues too...
