3dfx option

Post by GimlisGrenade »

Years ago, when Myth and Myth 2 came out, I remember there used to be a graphics option that took advantage of a 3dfx card if you had one plugged in. From memory, the game looked sharper, and the rendering of snow and fog were smoother and faster.

Playing Myth2 on my MacBook Pro nowadays though, am I seeing the best of what the game can offer, or is it worth playing Myth on one of my old G4's in OS 9 with a 3dfx card plugged in? (i'd have to hunt one down first)

Might be a silly question, but a search of the forums didn't turn up anyone asking the same thing.

3dfx was the best looking option when the game was released; with our updated versions, OpenGL (and Direct X on windows) have surpassed the quality of the 3dfx renderer.

Additionally, the new renderers support detail textures (search for it on the tain), and higher resolutions than 3dfx ever did. The upcoming version will add more modern graphics features as well.

Yea there's absolutely no reason to use 3dfx now with technologies as DX and OGL.
