Myth World Cup

Post by Zaknafein »

It started again and I'm sure 99% of you have no intention of participating.

However I have a couple of things to say that hopefully will make you reconsider.

1. All of myth reaps the benefits of MWC season. Yes there is obviously more "noob bashing" going on with all the competitive players out trying to train for MWC. However the increased number of players during this time means more games for everybody. It also encourages new/returning players when they see 1-2 full rooms and multiple games to join. Not to mention it reminds everyone that this game has a pulse. For most of us, we have logged on too many times to see 0 games and less than 10 players.

This benefits the average map-maker because it increases the number of players that will try out their new quarantine/mazz version, or try out that new co-op. Greater attendance in these games is usually more fun for everyone.

2. The teams will be less lopsided this MWC, meaning that even if you aren't that great at "reg/vanilla" myth, your team is less likely to get stomped. If you don't have a team, there is a higher likelihood that a team will want you to join them. What reassurances are there that what I said is true?

http://thegjol.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=499

As you can see in the link to the rules that I just posted, our tournament host Grim is implementing a salary cap in this MWC. There will be a limit to how many upper-tier players one team is allowed to add to their roster. This will distribute the talent more evenly throughout all the different teams, as well as increase the number of teams in the tournament.

3. Solidarity. If "reggers", co-opers, ww2ers, and mapmakers all participate in each others' activities/events, this game is going to be more fun for everybody. Yeah there are people with bad attitudes who will ruin games when they crossover from one style of play to another. But there is the benefit of having more players testing your patches, 3rd party netmaps, and co-ops. If we all shy away from each other pretending that the other side of myth doesn't exist, this game will die all the faster. E Pluribus Unum people!

Thanks for reading my thread.

PS: I am also attempting to reach out to inactive/retired mythers who might have forgotten about myth or MWC. If anyone can prove me links or contact info for these mything groups I would be very grateful: http://thegjol.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=538

You know with an opening line like this, I wonder why I even would.

Not the friendliest of opening lines, especially since Magma fielded a team last year. Or was that two years ago... ?

I always think about playing, and I usually follow the forums but the last few years reading the mwc forums it just feels like everyone constantly arguing with each other about every little thing... the schedule, the maps, the teams, the rules, the game choices, how people play, etc... I rarely get a sense that anyone is actually having *fun*. And fun would be pretty much the only reason I'd be interested in playing.

I am sure it's a different experience for many - and the forums probably aren't the best way to gauge people's actual feelings since they tend to be a complaint board - For all I know most MWC participants have loads of fun actually playing games.

Two years ago, although it wasn't really "magma" so much as "random people" :) Still, was fun.

Yeah those arguments always happen but I'd just ignore them and post in the join a team forum.

I figured that most people on projectmagma had a sour taste in their mouth from the last MWC they participated in, and their experience with most people who play in MWC. I could be wrong.

I'm not asking anyone to participate in MWC forums, in fact I would caution people to avoid them as much as possible. I only wish that we come together as a community, and make an effort to play a few sundays during the summer, in MWC.

I don't think people would keep showing up for MWC if they didn't enjoy it on some level. But if other people aren't having fun, that doesn't mean you can't. Just team up with people you enjoy playing with.

No argument Zak. Keeping the forums seperate from the games themselves is probably helpful for most non-forum rats to enjoy the MWC. and your advice is good, playing with people you enjoy playing with is always more fun than playing with douches.

I would consider coming out of retirement to play with Clan Magma.
