How does experience work for units in this game? I know when units get kills they become better but what does that mean? Is there a difference from 1 kill too 3? Do they get one notch better every 2 kills? Is there a max? Or do they just get like 4% faster every kill?

Also how does the "Allow veteran units" option work in multiplayer?

With more kills units have a shorter delay between attacks, and if they're a missile unit they get more accurate. The degree of these changes is set in Fear, under the attack dialog in the monster tag.

The max for normal Myth units is 5 kills, beyond which they cease improving. In 1.4 we introduced an extension whereby mapmakers can allow units to keep vetting up to 128 kills.

The multiplayer option allows units to keep their veteran status from one game to the next, instead of all being fresh zero-kill units with each restart.

Hmm I have never been able to get the Vet units in multplayer to work... Do we need to play the exact same game?

5 kill max is pretty dissapointing... Here I thought a zerk with 25 kills could take anything on :(

Vet works for me, as long as I pick maps out of the same plugin - I dunno actually
Okay I got the models but now I'm too dumb to do anything with 'em

That's sad.

Is the melee units vetting faster than ranged a Myth III-only thing, then?

To keep your vets in mutli:

-no one must leave the game
-no one must join the game
-don't change the plugin

If you want to do a vet keeping game, it' a good idea to close the game and ask your fellow players not to leave becuase you're gonna have some vet phun! :D:D

I recently began writing a book on the subject :surprised:

A guide to the mysteries of the veteran!

Here, at my website:
Lothar's Guide to Veterans

Even as I am writing this reply I am adding to it; it is a very thorough guide, but if you still have any questions, post them here so that they can be addressed in the guide.

Given the extremely temporary nature of veterans, it seems more reasonable that it's stored in RAM (or paged out to a disk) than that they'd devote a whole temporary file to it.
