Awesome! Hope to see you on soon! And please please please don't be deterred by the lack of players on mnet! As soon as PMnet is repaired and you can get an account there...or other things happen, you will have more players around.

Why will you see more players when PMnet is repaired? Won't you see LESS because people can go over to the other place? It's a small community. IMO this blade guy would be doing everyone a favor if he just shut PMnet down.

*Cough*

Well you'd see more if you could get an account over at PMnet, is what I mean.

Well the thing is, if it just gets shut down, we will lose people cause they don't know about/don't care for mariusnet. Optimally, PMnet could be repaired and restored...or something.

If it's defunct and someone's not keeping up with it, and it's hoarding all the other Myth players, it really should be retired. There's no use in splitting an already minuscule player base. I don't think everyone at PMnet would just quit playing Myth online if it were shut down. Hopefully they'd find another place to play because, hey, they love playing Myth online.

Alternatively, PMnet and Marius could merge. Mister blade guy could grant the Marius code monkeys access to his base and shrug off that duty/obligation. Marius would go down and everyone would get fast, easy access to PMnet. The PMnetters would keep their scores. All would be just fine and well.

Well. For the same reason that France and Germany won't unite into one nation, merging wouldn't quite work.

I dunno, I mean, maybe Blades is almost ready to go with repairs and things? Maybe?

This Just In!

Updated May 11, 2007:

Please note that the PlayMyth.net metaserver is online and still functioning as it always has - right now it just cannot accept new accounts as there is no way to create them.

Myth World Cup
It looks like MWC is getting ready to get fired up for 2007! I have been sent a link for those of you wanting to get started. You can go here for all of the info. We will provide any support needed for this as soon as we get back on our feet. For more info on Myth World Cup (MWC) 2007, go to mwc07.com.

News Update:
I know it's been an update since we last spoke - much has happened but things are FINALY beginning to calm down. I have the beginnings of a new PlayMyth.net web site. I will begin putting the pieces together hopefully this weekend and within a couple of weeks we may actually have a community web site back in place :)

Once I have the web site finished - and have ensured it's working and debugged, I am going to officially retire from the Myth Community. I've been pretty much an absentee host for a few years now anyway and I just don't see how I'm ever going to have the time like I once did. I'm realizing there are other priorities I have and need to pursue both the professional and personal things ahead. I will continue to host the site and game server until such point that I am no longer able.

It hasn't always been easy for all of us - and a lot of times we've not all gotten along. To be frank, there's been a lot of genuine disgust between certain people - but I want to say to everyone who had a hand in the Myth Community the last 5 years - Thank You. I learned a lot, I grew a lot and I'm looking forward to the road ahead.

More news on the upcoming web site as it gets closer to reality.

Thanks;
Michael Bagnall

Am I the only one that saw what sucked in that announcement?

Basically once the site is backup, its only a matter of time before the server has a minor hiccup and thats it, playmyth over. Judging by what he has said, it sounds like he has no interest in touching the site/server ever again and thats not a good sign for playmyth.

I really think it would've been better to have the injured chicken of marius as the hub of the community, rather than the headless chicken of playmyth.

Doesn't seem quite as dire as you say. Still, you're in essence correct. This is the last legs of pmnet.

Man, it's been a good run. Must it really end? Perhaps with minimal effort he can keep it running on auto.

Dant, tell me: are you the Dant I know?

The solution seems simple: turn it over to someone who DOES have the time. What would be so horrible about that? Thanks for your time, Blades. I'm sure you brought a lot of fun and good times to a lot of folks. Time to pass the torch to a new generation.

It's not even injured! That chicken [marius] just moved to a nice new data center, is fully functional with all the bells and whistles. ALL. Except the prefs tab...but ya know, I'll live.

Maybe calling it a day for pmnet isn't a bad idea? I mean, the alternative smells pretty good right now...

Maybe Marius is totally fine, I know I had no problems when playing there. However when plenty of people were on it a few weeks or so ago, did you notice any ww2 recon games? Any raid/GFGG games? Clearly plenty of those players are ignorant of marius' existence as a viable alternative.

I just feel it would've been better to shut playmyth down, than keep it going half-heartedly.

edit - one other thing I'd like to add, Marius accounts have to be manually activated by PPE as far as I know. I don't think its ideal to have just one person handle that, mainly because he could easily be too busy to deal with it sometimes.

Nope. New user registration works fine.

You only need PPE to do it manually if you have an old account with an email you no longer have access too.

You just have to resend your registration code, so you can rebind a password. Its explains it on the mnet site.

well I'll speak up for the newbs...

I just got Myth going on Mac and Sony laptops, thanks to help from various of you; but I was getting concernd after all the work to get things running that no-one out there was actually playing the game -- and I'm dying to tackle some of the cool co-op maps like Mazz Demise...

PlayMyth might as well be dead; I can't get onto it
MariusNet looks great, but is nearly as empty as the bloody Marie Celeste

I have two friends, and maybe my daughter, who will probably join in quite a bit if there's a few more people on Marius than presently. I think I've seen about 6 other players total, in periodic visits over about two weeks now.

feel free to ping me on any of these:

Frum, what you didn't comment on when answering Dant was, it's pretty obvious hacks come to the server a lot. It'll happen at some point.

I heard Tiger said again recently if PlayMyth dies he'll set up a server...please no. Divides suck.
