There is no official 1.7 high-res unit project, IF anyone in the community is working on it on their own they are apparently doing it under the radar.killerking wrote:Is there any work at it at all?
The guy who was working on the Heron Guard unit I believe started a (new?) job so no longer had the freetime for Myth modelling. So that promising looking project didn't (yet) even result in a single unit being completed.
As an example, myth II's map with detail textures will look like myth3's map. If you remember, they look much sharper andmuch more detailed than their m2 counter-part
Now what would be awesome in the future would be the possibility to create 3d polygonal units like in myth3, that would bring a whole new level and perhaps attract much more people to the game! When I show myth to some friends they just say things like "its a 10 year old game i want a new game"

But how do you know that Myth3 wasn't exactly what we've been discussing? e.g. The Myth II engine with support for 3D rendering of world objects and units?
Not saying it is... not saying it isn't...

Who exactly is ready and willing? Not saying there aren't, I just don't know any that might be that ready and willing as you sound there are.GodzFire wrote:The problem is, while there are people ready and willing to work on them, we just don't have access to the original unit materials so we can go back and re-render them.
tweaking myth3 to make it like myth2 is pointless, all the work thats been put into myth2 would be gone. What's done with every new versions of myth 2 is ADDING features, and I think better eye candy would be a pretty good feature now that we've been focussing on gameplay for 10 years.
Also having the original models of the myth units would not be helpful since they are probably made with too many polygons anyways, what would be much easier would be to use the myth3 models and tweak them a little for myth2.

That would be bad. The majority of the Myth 3 models weren't very good to start with; we'd be trading good bitmaps for mediocre models.Zeph wrote: Also having the original models of the myth units would not be helpful since they are probably made with too many polygons anyways, what would be much easier would be to use the myth3 models and tweak them a little for myth2.
The Bungie ones wouldn't be helpful, as you said, as there's way too many polygons. I dunno if the old modelling application has a facility for this, but you'd need to reduce the poly count on the models before doing anything with 'em...
Okay I got the models but now I'm too dumb to do anything with 'em
