WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
pretty cool!
let's beta test the plug as it will be in couple of weeks, and then you can add explosions and parachute ammo dropping easily to the local
I tested the tanks I did
at highest zoom back, -27 degrees camera is not even enough, perspective looks funny
they should be at least 29 or 30 degrees
but when you zoom in, 27 degrees works great
so dunno what's best....

Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
nobody plays zoomed in
Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
I'm with Zeph here, If I could lock my camera at full zoom I would.
Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
ok, still tank doesn't look bad with -27 camera angle
regular units are rendered at -25
it could be even 28
if you are not perfectionists, I could even upload a plug to test this weekend
shoot me a PM to set up a time, preferably night time PST
or early morning sunday PST

Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
not sure I understood that...sorry
Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
alpha testing is used to kill bugs before a ton of time is wasted... It helps to see if a road traveled should take a u turn and go back and take the left instead of the right.... so dont worry about perfection... thats for later...
I say this because I have had all this wwii stuff on my harddrive since the last day of bungie net screw perfection and lets finally get this party started
found all the origional tank models from warfare axis vs allies circa 1991 ... Hawk rendered the tanks I rendered all the soldiers... looks like he did the tanks at 21 degrees i did the soliders at 25... the resolution on the soldiers make them about 140 pixels tall... High resolution i guess would be 200 pixels tall... though no idea what a 6' tall soldier in your set up works out to yet...
there is also a wwii interface in there.... that with some updates could be included...

if one does not learn from the failings of the past they are likely to suffer its return.
Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
mmm maybe the models of the tanks were so small that the angle was ok
with bigger models I found it weird less than -27
but you can try and see, in the end it's all trial and error

Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
if one compares you jagdpanther tank with the one hawk did at the same scale I bet there wouldnt look to be much different except the resolution.
that o6 local that was uploaded looks like i tossed in 4 different local folders into one... so a bit challenging to navigate though theres a boat load of stuff in there... Looks like i need to upload a cleaned up one... I think the last beta we ever did was tanks in the streets of Jinn...

Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
I'm just always arguing for the option of true 3D units, a la Myth 3, but in Myth 2.carlinho wrote:not sure I understood that...sorry

ah...well, that would be the end of my map making abilities, as I have no clue about serious 3D but just simple stuff for myth 2....

Just imagine not having to Oak/Amber units.carlinho wrote:ah...well, that would be the end of my map making abilities, as I have no clue about serious 3D but just simple stuff for myth 2....

Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
you would just import animated models directly in myth , no mroe rendering, myth does it
The problem with big sprites is that the myth view is 3D which means view width will affect the angle. Objects will be looked at from a different angle depending on their position on the screen. Just go into a map with models, zoom out completely, and go over a house. If you place the model near the bottom of the screen, you will mostly see the roof of the house. The angle must be around 60-70 degrees. But if you look at it with the top of the screen, the angle will be much closer to 10-20'.

Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
but you guys are dreaming right?
or somebody is doing that as we chat?

Re: WW II 1944 Normandy -high res
Dreaming... which is why jon said "argument for 3D units".
