Ren that's... totally not helping. I really dont need someone to stick up for me. If horus wants to hurl insults and tell people to die in real life thats his ticket to hell, not mine. I could care less how wrong he or anyone else is about me.
Isn't it 'couldn't care less' ?

Of course people are going to be skeptical if they see unit lists like these.
The Wind Age site wrote:Dwarves:

* Dwarves
* Dwarf Pathfinders
* Dwarven Specialists & Dwarven Specialist Heroes
* Dwarf Magicians & Dwarf Magician Heroes
* Dwarf Fanatics
* Dwarf Warmasters
* Dwarven Riflemen
* Dwarven Shotgunners
* Dwarven Blunderbuss
* Squirrel Scouts
Squirrel scouts?? I personally could see that working, but not everyone is that open minded... expect criticism.

I think I've made more shockingly bad plugins that anyone in the thread right now, so I understand it's no fun having your hard work lambasted by jerks.

But you guys keep saying 'don't talk about a subject you know NOTHING about'... well, the screenshots are going up, the unit lists are there for us to see. There's stuff there for people to judge, and they are going to judge it.

Myth players didn't hold back on saying what they thought of Myth 3 ; why would they go easy on something that could wind up being called Myth 4?
With Myth 3, at least we didn't have the creators on the forum telling us all we have no idea what we're talking about.
With this Myth 4 thing, we've got the people who appear to be the project leaders speaking with more unnecessary 'venom' than most of the other people in the thread.
Come on; calling someone elses unfinished campaign 'lame and contrived' is all of a sudden acceptable when it's Renwood doing the shit-talking?
I don't get it.

Honestly, Ren and Horus should just find spokesmen. Either that, or I suggest y'all take it to Mnet and sort it out there. It beats arguing on a forum, I say.

Wow, the Myth community is going to hell in a handbasket, and it's cocky bastards like you that are taking it there.

"Ooh, we're making MYTH IV", "Oooh I'm a GRAND AUTHOR", "The skill going into this project is beyond that which goes into other RANDOM plugins". JESUS. You're making a total conversion not unlike any other, with the only difference being your egos. Flesh eating zombies? How the hell is that so amazing?! As far as I can tell, zombies have been eating flesh since film was first invented.

The Fallen's Vengeance is right up there in the "stop kidding yourselves" category for me. Stop acting like you're the second coming and you're making some god-like campaign that everyone will fawn over.

Neither campaigns are Myth IV, because you are nowhere near the skill level that Bungie were (I'll even say you're not as good as MumboJumbo were, at this point). You're all map makers in a very small community, and you're arguing over who gets to make "Myth IV"?! Fuck off, just grow some balls and stop trying to use the roman numeral as a pedestal for your crappy plugin. If your plugin is so damned good, people will like it without the word "Myth" in the title.

In the end, your plugin will be a huge-ass-waste-of-space 300mb in my plugins folder and a reason for me to hate this community even more.

-TGP-

EDIT: The last sentence is misleading. If your plugin is good, fine. It won't be a waste of space. I might even enjoy it.

And I don't hate the community, I'm just distanced from it. But from the perspective of someone who's planning on reentering the community very soon, you're not giving a good impression.

haha! i think that's a grand entry into the thread, and a grand point on which to leave it - if i had the power i would lock it here.

i don't expect everyone to all be friends, but cid's is about the most grounded post i've seen here in two freaking weeks or more, maybe since it started. i don't expect my mere words to stop anyone posting or kicking up a few more sparks and igniting more flames, but in the end, all that matters is results.

show me the money. i can wait until there's been some progress that's worth showing off or advertising the wind age, but show me the money. everything else is just hot air.

I don't think anyone has claimed in this thread that TFV is the real Myth 4. If they did, I missed it. I would appreciate if people could refrain from bashing a project I've spent three years working on because of things that happened four years ago.

It's true that this is a hobby, not a job. True that everything anyone here makes is a plugin, not a game. True that the stakes are really not that high, in the big scheme of things. Still, we've worked very hard on it, and have done so quietly in recent years. Please don't assault us until it's done, and we'll do the same.

I think, Cid, you could ease off on TFV a bit... we have old pals working on that plug! If it weren't for that time where I woke up one morning and realised I had no future in voice-acting, I'd have definitely thrown my hat into the ring for them.

oogaBooga wrote: Thats awesome youre naming everything some lame variation of myth 4 - that way when they never come out we can all have a big laugh.

Honestly tho i dont know if youre just being glib or if youre trying to be funny, but i'm not buying it :P

-ooga
Which one aren't you buying? That I am being glib or trying to be funny? Is there even a difference?

I am dissappointed you didn't find ANY of those myth conversion titles at least the slightest bit amusing. I thought a couple of them were reasonably funny.

note: For the humor-impaired, no I am not making any of the conversions I listed above. And no, though it pokes fun at THE NAME of The Wind Age being "Myth 4" it is not a criticism of the project The Wind Age or the people working on it.

vinylrake wrote:Hey Ren, that reminds me - did you ever get those screenshots of The Wind Age uploaded that you were going to post last weekend? I am dying to see how the project is coming along and I haven't been following the conversations here very closely so thought maybe I missed the link....
Oh they are in the works. Mostly we're getting shots of the MANY MANY new alpha mapped 16 frame explosion and magic and whatnot sprites in order so the screenshots look even better.

But nice try with the cynicism - even if it failed utterly due to, you know, facts and all.

-ooga
oooga, try not to get your panties in a bunch, I wasn't being cynical I was genuinely interested in the screen shots - why else woud I ask for them NICELY multiple times over the course of a couple of weeks? Note: THere's a difference between saying something like "OMG U SUK UR PR0JKT IS D00MD!" and something like "I am looking forwards to your project being done so I can play it - do you have any screenshots that show how the project is coming along"?

Granted the timing might not have been the best, but Renwood's comment about TFV not having any progress reminded me that I had asked Ren about screenshots for TWA since I hadn't seen any yet and my initial request was because _I_ really have no idea how much progress has been made towards TWA getting completed.

So, you can believe me or not, but there's really no point in making enemies of people who are interested in your project(s).

ps Ren, thanks for link, I lurv purty pictures.

I'm with ozone, the magma forums have always been very much free and open without artificial constraints placed on people. We even allowed extremely hateful and arguably nonconstructive posts about our work on various patches to persist as we felt it was important to give the community the opportunity to let it's voice be heard. Even the unpleasant part that had nothing but vitriol to share.

This thread isn't simply going to disappear. You don't get to pretend you never fucked up. You CAN make useful productive statements and accept useful criticism for what it's worth.

The only way this is going to end is if the participants grow up a little.

You got it lank. Money is on the way, in the form of movie clips and screenshots. New colormaps, new sprites, that sort of thing. Tox recently posted some old screens of the watcher by accident, expect a bit more to look at in the new ones.
