Myth tools themselves have a history of using names of negative emotion/desire; Fear, Loathing, Vengeance
iirc there was a 3rd party tool (may have been VIsta as well) called Spite and Malice.
Spite and Malice are my creations, not Vista's. I didn't really latch on to the whole "gem" naming theme.
I have a feeling, though, that the names could be from someone who was a fan of the Black Company books. You know, the Jewel Cities (Beryl, Opal, Garnet).
