What color is Maeldun's cloak? - In your opinion
I just thought of this out of the top of my crazy mind, but an attack for Maeldun I would suggest would be a kind of 'disintegrating' attack. I imagine it as being powerful enough to destroy a unit like a Thrall or a Warrior or Berserk but the recovery time wouldn't make it easy to take out an army. It would be very fast, but slow enough to be seen traveling in a strait line. Also it would kind of leave no gory bits, it would make the unit melt very quickly into a pile of dust. Also it wouldn't kill stronger units like Trow in one attack.
Just a suggestion. :nocomment:

When I read "no gory bits" I thought I read no glory bits...
When I said "no gory bits", i kinda meant that when the monster got 'disintegrated' it would leave nothing put a yellowish pile of dust. The attack I was talking about kinda comes from the "Anne Droid" off the doctor who episode with the game shows.
Im sorry Pyro if my post was confusing, im no native english speaker, so my english is truly confusing sometimes..
so first of, i thought Avatara is plural, thus my mind made "Avatar" the singular, though i think i actually knew that its Avatara, my mind seems to had a blackout here, my bad sry :/
So, what my sister meant was: The hat in the opening sequence is longer than the hat on the picture with the 3 guys, so it cant be Murgen, that guy also doesnt match with Maeldun, and since i thought that it cant be Alric, i started to think that its a total different Avatara, not Alric nor Murgen nor Maeldun.
So of course you cant compare a pixelated thing with a nice drawing, but the colors are totally different, even though its a cheap engine, it cant make grey with brown lines out of full red because it sucks, it seems intended to me and therefore i thought that it cant be Alric in that opening sequence. Though the point that you only see Alric in M1 and therefore its Alric makes sense to me.
Thats very confusing...
Anyhow back to Maeldun:
That thing with the tricky and not easily seen spells, though i'd imagine Maeldun more because "how" he moves and casts and fights is sneaky, not the spells themself. But thats just my 2 cents.
I'd give him an illusion or mirror image spell. So he distracts the enemy and than pops up from nowhere and pwns them in a moment.

That would be a very interesting spell. It would also be very fun if you distract an enemy with a mirror image, run around in circles for several hours and then chop its head off! However, if that was used, there would probably be scripting required for use on different plugins AND I imagine it sucking a lot of mana so it would be a good idea to kill it immediately!Doromas wrote:I'd give him an illusion or mirror image spell. Still, it's a very good suggestion.
hm, i rather say you spent half of your mana on making a mirror image, it stays forever but has only half HP's and cant attack, something like that.
The thing is to make the enemy believe where youre mightiest unit is, he will gather everything on that point to crush it, in the meanwhile you go around with Maeldun and some other units and complete your mission (in coop's, but the comp will prolly be able to tell the difference between real guy and mirror image)
or you go around the enemy and attack him surprisingly, to make Maeldun imba give him to that a teleportation spell and an uber spell that kills everything surrounding him.
btw, i wouldnt give Maeldun teleport, almost every mage has that shit, thats boring and teleport (when not made almost unusable) is somehow unfair.

Don't worry Doromas, even native english speaking people make mistakes like these. I think Avatara can be singlular and plural like the word fish. You aren't the first person I see refer to them as Avatars. Just look at the mistake I made in this thread by calling what Maeldun wears as a cloak when it is clear its a robe.
"I'd give him an illusion or mirror image spell. So he distracts the enemy and than pops up from nowhere and pwns them in a moment."
As for that attack... you hit it in the right spot... I had a similar attack planned for Maeldun or one of the other Avatara. Scripting would be required but it isn't such a big deal... well if you played with scripting it won't be. The spell I had in mind... or one of the spells.. was an attack that would create decoys of the unit that will look and attack like the original without actually doing real damage. This way it won't be a powerful attack. I just wasn't sure if the attack should create just one copy... or multiple copies... Multiple copies would be useful if Maeldun is being chased down but a faster enemy... and with it the enemy will not know which is the real one and attack hopefully a fake one why the real one and maybe another copy flee... this way the enemy won't assume the original fled and go after that one only.
Teleportation is not too complex... you just have to add the scripting to any map you wish to use that attack... I've messed with teleportation a lot... from the example in the Chimera plugin.

hm, multiple copies, that'll be fun!
"Hey theres Maeldun!" *copy disappears behind tree*
*other copy shows up*
"ey wtf, wasnt he over there 2 seconds ago?"
could be even a bit spooky.
you know what? i'd say that Maeldun can channel his magic in the copy's and cast spells through them, though they cant make physical damage (the fake attacks) but they can cast spells, though you just need to get them share Maeldun's mana, so if Maeldun has 100 mana, they have 100 mana, if he casts a 20 mana spell (no matter if by himself or through a copy), all have 80 mana, you know what i mean?
So, of course some meanies would get the idea "hey i send the copy to the enemys so the original unit gets no damage" you'd need to give them very low HP's so theyre easily destroyed and give them a "maximum range" so if they stand to far away Maeldun cant channel magic in them anymore. (id say he is mighty enough, but ingame it would be unfair)
btw, i'd find the special "anti-undead" melee attack for Maeldun very cool. Though you could also give him a deceiver-similar melee attack.

So he's supposed to turn people into frogs? Hey guess what, there are frogs in myth! And you can do all of this with no scripting!
Have a very powerful attack that can kill almost anything in one hit. Might be 2 or 3 for a trow or can't hit stronger units or whatever. The point is that, when you T click a stupid unit like a thrall, this unit dies and becomes a frog projectile that will sit on the map while burping, i think that would be funny
I also like the illusion effect. What I think would be most useful and lethal is if the copies could also deal damage, but they had a lot less vitality.
This spell requires a lot of scripting, though.
Teleportation is also a very nice spell. I thought of a neat idea on how to have a unit that would teleport right in front of the enemy and then bash it with a powerful spell. Using the new 1.5 feature which allows a unit to charge. You see the range of the charge to something like 12 and the modified speed of charging to something crazy like 10 000% You then give Maeldun a powerful staff attack with an average radius and slow attack speed and then when you click on an enemy that's in range, Maeldun will "teleport" right in front of that unit, strike it and then if you're smart, you can click another unit and teleport to the new one. It could make some really nasty hit and run tactics.
Edit : I just tested and nevermind my teleport You can't go past 120%

"what has that got to do with it? do you mean Doromas's Avatar?"
Absolutely *everything* my friend!
This thread is called "What colour is Maeldun's cloak?". Yet the unit that is being made looks more like the guy on the right, and is even waving the same kind of staff. Wouldn't it be Murgen, then?

Okay I got the models but now I'm too dumb to do anything with 'em
