Max number of units

What is the max number of units that you can have at once on a map? I saw on a post here some1 said you can have like 8000 items proj units ect, but what is the max unit number. I have been testing it out for a map I am making and it seems to be around 500. Is that the max number? Is there anyway to get more?

The maximum number of visible units is 400. This means 400 units anywhere on the map that do not have the "invisible" flag checked. You can have a lot more than 400 units placed, just so long as there is never more than 400 visible at any one time (and that includes the player's units).

I noticed that when I placed more than 40 units on each side and they went to battle(melee) the game slowed down a lot, and started lagging badly.
I thought that it was because the units I placed where bigger in sprite sizes than the myth original ones, but Road told me that happened with regular myth units too, if amounts where big...
any ideas what's the number of units fighting that could be at the same time without starting to lag the game?
I have a tending to fast computer(867 mhz 1 gig ram mac powerbook g4) so I don't think that's the problem...

More than 230 units moving simultaneously also risks OOS in multi-player or co-op.

I shudder to think how much trial and error must have gone into nailing down that 230 number. :p

Thanks. 400 is less than I was hoping for. I have had I guess 400 units on the map at once with about 50 arcs shooting flame arrows and 2 groups of 90 wars fighting and didnt experience any slow downs or anything. This was though in single player on a map I was testing unit numbers on? Is 230 the max safe number or should it be less for slower comps? Would a decent comp 1 that has no prob with the standard Myth maps be able to handle the 230 number?
Is there any plans to or is there even anyway that the max unit number can be safely increased to mb 1000 or something?
