How many plugins can you have?

When I have more than 256 plugins in the plugins folder, Myth crashes when I hit the plugin box in the host game window. I know the plugin limit used to be 256, but I thought this was increased at some point in the 1.5 or 1.5.1 cycle. Is this not the case?

I thought that only 99 plugins can be displayed when hosting, but mb I'm very wrong about that.
