Green Berets - same armies?

Post by Roc »

When I play Green Berets multiplayer with my buddy, we both have American troops and no Vietcong. What is this?

Is it normal? I thought that the other guy would play on the vietcong side, like in Blue & Grey the other has rebels and the other has the bluecoats :)

Offtopic: I recently bought Green Berets just for multiplayer, I hope SF2 will feature more than GB did.

It depends on how the map/mesh was designed. MOST multiplayer maps for the Myth games give each team the exact same starting units - whether it's all 'good' units, all 'evil' units, or a mix of the two - so I am not surised that GB follows that pattern. There are a few 3rd party maps where different teams start with different sets of units but they are pretty rare.

From what I hear, it will be much more than what shipped as GB.

Yes it is true this is how it was done but its not how we wanted to do it. We just didnt have the time to balance it with VC vs American. The funny part is Take2 didnt even think multiplayer was needed AT ALL but the 3 of us making the game thought it did so we added it. It was definitly a last minute addition and I think it shows. The problem with this is the VC units dont have all the animations the American units do. Such as pick-up animations...and things needed to make things work right. SO Im basically left with what feels like half done collections on the VC side.

Anyway...the first maps I release will not have VC vs American either but at some point Id like to add this as well. It is just so hard to balance this because they use such different weapons between the 2 sides. My main goal with SF2 was to make the gameplay of Green Berets and Special Forces 1 better. I think Ive done that as well as I possibly could. I hope when and if I ever release it you feel the same way...
do it.

CPR is light vs dark

and sf2 could probably use hue changes to have them look like light vs dark... depending on how the bit maps were rendered..

I think the original question was about the possibility of having light units (USA) vs, dark units(North Vietnamese), not the hue of the teams.

I think the issue with true light vs dark in sf2 is that the vc didnt have all the sequences that the us have... no pickups etc...

Yay, I have an question about green berets: when I play SME with my friend Kropa, we can't heal ourselves with the medkits we pick up. But I can heal him! Also notice, I can't update to version 1.1 because there's no pluginpatcher for macosx. Could somebody please upload the 'patched' files for me??

Thanks, killerking.
