Myth 2 : Tyr Campaign story idea?

Post by DarthRevan555 »

I wanted to make a small ( 3 - 6) level campaign about The city of Tyr :D

the other cities have had their share of spotlight (Covenant, Scales, Madrigal etc.) but i haven't seen a lot of them being Tyr

so I have a small idea for the storyline and i wanted to share it and get some opinions that could help me make it :D

Storyline takes place during The Great War ( TFL ) and a lil after.

but here it goes..

The beginning starts off as the War is over, balor is destroyed and the fallen lords are dead, everyone is now beginning the long task of rebuilding the world

and as a group of soilders are clearing out the last remnants of dark forces in old ruined cities they come to Tyr to cleanse it and there they find a Journal.

One of the soilders takes the journal and begins to read it, and thats where the story begins and it talks about the writer and his struggles and how he stays alive during the Fall of Tyr
and it tells how the City was destroyed and why there is still a large enemy garrison in it....

Neat idea. I like it.

If you're working on your own, you might want to stick with your minimum of 3 levels, at least to start out with. Less chance of it becoming vaporware that way :)

Standard TFL units?

I would use M2 units - theyve got smoother animation - and you can always make plug vTFL compatible.

I lurv new solo campaigns/maps. Go for it!

fyi, there is a solo mini-campaign called "The Soldiers of Tyr", but it appears to be named that because the is the name of the order the author belonged to.

There are a few obsticales i must do first.

the biggest problem I'm having is that I am using a Windows PC and most programs are for Mas OS or OSX

Namely Amber

which I need to import the pregame art and other media

I also need help on colormaps, most of mine look great but when it comes to importing it to Myth, they always turn to crap due to the 8 Bit bmp format which frustrates me the most.

There are ways a PC user can use Amber, or do limited collection stuff using its inferior inbred cousin Tahoe which is a PC program.

For example, let's say you wanted a newe pregame (solo or even the netpic for online play). Find one that exists that behaves the same way (this for solo pregames). If its just for a netpic find whichever you wish. Then open it using Tahoe and replace its images and color table with the ones you have made, and save it in a new name. Tah dah!!

But if you wish to do more advanced stuff, then Amber is the way to go. Use a program called SheepShaver to emulate classic Mac OS. And use Amber with it. There are some things you must download and do. I can't be too sure but I think it works with Windows XP only. Maybe I'm wrong on that though.

If you are interested in using Amber on your PC with SheepShaver, send me a PM and I will give me more details.

If you actually have animated units, you probably won't have too hard a time finding someone to Amber them for you--people always love seeing new units in this game. Not me, mind you. I'm on a PC too.

There are at least a few colormappers around here who are experts at indexing their colormaps to work with the Myth engine. Graydon is one of them, and I've known him to give the advice pretty freely. He has probably done so on these forums already--do a search for colormaps in the mapmaking forum and see what turns up. If that fails, you could try finding him on Hotline and asking. The only advice I can give you with regard to colormaps is to try not to use too many very different colors--if you've got greens, blues, and browns, you probably can't add much else without straining the color limit.

There a lot of good colormapping tutorials that you can find here.

Lots of good stuff - two I would recommend as required reading are the Colormapping Walkthrough, and the Colormap Indexing Tiptutorial.

Well after several other stuff.
this project has been sitting on the shelf collecting dust and has withstood the test of time.

So I have decided to move forward with this story. I wrote a first draft of the story and it's decided that it will be three levels of game play and 1 level of cut scene.

New Story Synopsis:

The Narrator is from the town of Ash which was destroyed by The Fallen and upon hearing the news of Covenants destruction at the hands of Soulblighter they seek refuge to Tyr.

After coming to Tyr which has been shelled by pirates, Maeldun has garrisoned inside the city and must fend off the pirates

At the end Maeldun must leave to Madrigal and takes a large portion of Tyrs military men with him.

Demoralized the survivors give up hope after receiving news of that Balh'al and his army are en route. The Narrator rallies the sixty soldiers by having them hold the city long enough for the Villagers (including his family) to get on a ship and sail away. After the battle the soldier realize that they cannot come with their families and that they must stay long enough to give them a head start. the soldiers including the Narrator accept their fate and await their doom.

-----------
Now the story takes place throughout the course of 3 days after their arrival to Tyr.

So thoughts on the new story?
I want a few approvals before actually starting it.

and as a side note. Can anyone draw good? because I would love to have pre-game art for this.

Journal Time line - 10 years before events of Myth TFL and the last 3 days of tyr

Epilogue time line - post-war of great war

Perhaps you could drop a pregame text on http://pastebin.com/ so we could critique it?
