So I got hit with a wave of nostalgia and wanted to muck around with the Myth 2 demo (my install CD's have been mia for quite a while). I downloaded it from projectmagma and was set to go. However, the game simply changes my resolution and draws a black screen. The mouse still moves around, but nothing happens. At first I thought it must just be loading slowly... very very slowly... slower than TF2 or DOW2. But nope. It sits there until I kill the process. From the myth_log.txt:

I feel like there must be something idiotic that I'm overlooking or... I dunno. It's late and I wanted to hear the sweet sound of "casualty" once again. Any help is appreciated.

Are your graphics drivers up to date?

Frozen on black screen, sounds exactly like This post we had a while ago. Unfortunately we weren't able to solve that problem.

Re: 1.7 demo not working on XP
Ok, one post in that thread you linked made me try something that sounded like a longshot, but it worked. I was wondering if my monitor or my video card or whatever was having trouble with the 640x480 , 16bit that somebody referenced.
I unplugged my Dell2209WA monitor and plugged in a shitty 17" ViewSonic Display. The menu screen loaded right away and I was able to play around a bit on the first level, mostly blowing up my own men with the dwarves. CASUALTY. Unbelievable waves of nostalgia. So good.
Edit: After plugging back in my big monitor... it also works there. I didn't even change any GPU image scaling settings or anything. Color me fucking confused.
Thanks again, and you guys are fucking awesome to keep Myth alive like this.

So I guess newer monitors don't like loading in 640x480 resolution. I hope something will be done about this in future updates.
