Vista & Total Codex

Post by Madrigal »

I miss playing Myth. I used to have the Myth: Total Codex (M:TC) . . . . long story. . . . . I've been looking at purchasing it again and wondering how it would work on Vista. That's when I stumbled across Project Magma and the Tain.
Now, I will ask something, instead of trying to hunt down the question in the Forums.
The Windows Modern patch: Does it pertain only to Soulblighter, or the complete M:TC as well? If I should buy the game and install it on Vista, should I already have the patch, or install it after the M:TC? Finally, anything to be aware of as far as other bugs or crashes on Vista with the patch(es) and M:TC?

Thanks for the answers! :)

Short answer:

Yes. If you buy M:TC, you can apply patch 1.7 and play on Vista.

Long answer:

Myth: Total Codex isn't a game itself, but rather a collection which includes Myth I, Myth II and a whole bunch of plugins (i.e. mods) for Myth II.

The 1.7 patch upgrades Myth II. The plugins that come with M:TC haven't all been tested with 1.7, but most likely they will work just fine. You probably won't be able to play Myth I on Vista, but you can play the Myth I campaign in the Myth II engine by downloading a plugin: The Fallen Levels.

The standard (and easiest) way to install it would be to install M:TC first, then patch 1.7 on top.

As for bugs or crashes on Vista, we have had a couple reports, although nothing too serious. If you have any problems though, let us know.

Short thanks: Thank you very much!

Long thanks: Excellent info - even about Myth I! It may have sounded like a silly pack of questions, but I wanted to be certain.

Melekor, thank you very much for the answers and the Fallen Levels link!

Also it is worth saying that most of the plugins included with the Total Codex are outdated. Many of those were since updated and could probably be found at the Tain. Some will be located elsewhere.

Myth 2 has a "vTFL" (virtual TFL) mode. So if you choose to play The Fallen Levels or the Myth TFL Multiplayer Mappack, you can play it like TFL. The vTFL gameplay option makes M2 act like TFL. You can even download the TFL interface and go to your prefs in M2 and make it look like TFL.
