Myth 2 1.7.1 Problems
Myth 2 1.7.1 Problems
I've had a couple problems crop up in this patch.
If I try to run the modern build, I can hear the menu music but the menu screen doesn't appear. I'm using Windows 7.
I can run the game with the classic build, with some graphics issues. With OpenGL rendering, gameplay is choppy. Also, the game will close after one map. I can run the game fine with both Direct3D and Software rendering.
There is one other thing that I'm not sure fits in the forum. In 1.7.1 if a map starts while Myth 2 is minimized, the game closes. In 1.7, the game used to maximize as the map was loading. I'm guessing this is a bug?
Thanks.

Re: Myth 2 1.7.1 Problems
What are your system specs? Are your video card drivers up to date? Do you have windows up to date? What does your "myth_log" say? You can find this text file in your Myth II folder. The game closing while minimized instead of maximizing to load a game is never good.

I let auto-updating run, so I assume Windows is up to date. Yeah, my video card drivers are up to date.

Re: Myth 2 1.7.1 Problems
Have you tried compatibility mode on the Myth II exe? There probably hasn't been much testing on Windows 7 64bit with Myth if at all.

Re: Myth 2 1.7.1 Problems
EDIT: That log is from the classic build, can you post one from the modern build?
You're running a very new platform, so it's not surprising that there might be issues. In particular with win7 64 bit, likely culprits would be drivers, possibly in combination with the WOW64 compatibility layer.
The fact that you cannot even see the main menu indicates that myth isn't able to set the display mode to 640x480 or bring its window to the front. In the next version (1.7.2), the game will launch in a window by default, so no mode switching will be required and it'll be much more likely that you can see the menu. Until then, please try the attached preferences file which should let you launch the game in windowed mode.
As for starting a game while minimized - this hasn't changed. Myth is still programmed to restore the window when the game starts. I guess what is happening is that the game crashes during start (likely related to your other issues), and it never has a chance to unminimize.

Re: Myth 2 1.7.1 Problems
I was able to replicate the issue of the main window not showing up at all by running Myth on a windows XP virtual machine which does not support 640x480. I will investigate further and post back if I discover any solutions.
Re: Myth 2 1.7.1 Problems
Here's the log when I try to run the modern build. I'm guessing you are right.

I tried dumping that file into my preferences folder, but no go; I still don't see anything.
Compatibility mode did work though.
Edit: I have a similar issue with OpenGL even in compatibility mode. The game isn't choppy, but if I leave a map the screen freezes, though I can hear the menu music and hit escape to close the game.

Re: Myth 2 1.7.1 Problems
I believe I may have found a way to work around your issue. It would be helpful if you could test out a beta build of 1.7.2 to see if it works. Would you be interested in doing that? I will PM you a link to the exe.
Re: Myth 2 1.7.1 Problems
For the record, here is the reply from Interitus:
Success!Everything seems to work fine with this build. I can't test the "game closing when a map starts while minimized" thing unless I see some online play, but hopefully that won't be a problem either.

Re: Myth 2 1.7.1 Problems
Rather than start a new thread, I thought it would be simpler to resurrect this old one. I am having exactly the same issue that Interitus had.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit edition. I can run Myth II without the patch (ver 1.3), but would prefer to get it patched up so I can run the TFL maps in it.
Any chance I can try the new build as well?
Thanks in advance,
Ragehammer

1.7.2 is now in public beta - everyone is able to download it!

Keep in mind that you need to be updated to 1.7.1 first, for the 1.7.2 public beta to work.

Ok, tried the 1.7.2 beta and I'm getting an Error
"The Myth II beta has expired"
Any ideas?

This issue is being worked on as we speak. Stay Tuned.
In the meantime you could set your computers clock back to before March 1, 2011 and it will run. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause...
do it.

Thanks Ozone.
Set the clock back, got the menu screen and was able to start the tutorial. I'll try out the rest this evening.
You guys rock.
